Name Ellmann to 2nd
Term as Commissioner
of Michigan State Bar

William M. Ellmann, 19724
Shrewsbury, has been appointed
to succeed himself as commis-
sioner-at-large of the State Bar
of Michigan for a four-year
term to expire Sept. 30,1965.
In making the announcement,
Chief Justice John R. Dethmers
of the Michigan Supreme Court
stated that Ell-
mann's ap-
pointment was
by unanimous
action of that
body.
Since he was
named to the
commission in
1959, Ellmann
has been ac-
tive in many
State Bar Ellmann
projects. He has for several
years been vice chairman of
the Public Relations Commitee
of the Detroit Bar Association
and for a number of years has
been a member of the Ameri-
can Bar Association. He is as-
sociated - in the practice of law
with his father, James I. Ell-
mann, a f or m er municipal
judge in Highland Park, an
with his brother, Erwin B. El
mann.
A second brother, Richard, is
professor of English at North
western University, Evanston
Ill., and a recent winner of the
National Book Award for a
biography on James Joyce.
Ellman is a member of Tem-
ple Beth El, Dov Frenkel Lodge
of Bnai Brith, Sholom Post of
the Jewish War Veterans, and
was a leader in the successful
fight this spring against contem-
plated state legislation, which,
in the probate field, would have
effectively ended the oppor-
tunity of Jewish parents to
adopt local children.
