Joins in Planning 'Toast to Israel'
League of Jewish. Women's Organizations to Install
Officers, Present Mildred Rosenberg Youth Awards
The annual meeting of the
League of Jewish Women's Or-
ganizations, an affiliate of the
National Bureau- of Federated
Jewish Women's Groups, will be
held 8:15 p.m. Thursday at
Adas Shalom Synagogue.
LEADERS OF SOUTH OAKLAND HADASSAH, at a
recent get-together at the home of Mrs. Jack Winshall, 26341
Hendrie, completed plans for Hadassah's Toast to Israel Bar
Mitzvah celebration on behalf of Israel Bonds. The affair
will be held in the grand ballroom of the Veterans Memorial
,Building 8 p.m. May 24. The planning committee consists of

The annual "Night of Stars,"
sponsored by Cong. Bnai David,
wil be held 9 p.m. June 17 at the
Ford Auditorium, it was an-
nounced by Jack Lieberman, gen-
eral chairman of- the giant fund--
raising campaign.
Featured wil= be v o c a l i s t
Hanna Ahroni. Other performers
will be Jack Hilliard, the Bob
De Voye dancing trio, Comedians
Ford and Reynolds, and Max
Leib and his orchestra.
With a voice ranging four oc-
taves, Miss Ahroni sings in He-
brew, Italian, French, Spanish,
Portuguese, and English. She has
appeared with Fernandel, Edith
Piaf, Charles Laughton, Lionel
Hampton and the late Sydney.
Bechet, and she was an overnight
sensation in the Empire Room of
the Waldorf-Astoria, New York,
and the Thunderbird HOtel, Las
Vegas.
The "Committee of 100" an-
nounced by Lieberman includes

New Group to 'Tackle
Anti-Semitism Issue
An off-campus, non-sectarian
organization dealing with the
problem of anti - Semitism - has
been formed by a group of
Wayne State University students.
Marvin Surowitz, president of
"Youth Dedicated to Jewish Lib-
erty," stated that the club deals
with anti - Semitism t h . r o u g h
weekly informal discussions, so-
cials and a broad program of
lectures to educate the public to
the inherent dangers found in
anti-Semitism and the way it
affects all segments of society.
Talks on Christianity, Judaism
and Islam are announced for
coming meetings. The public is
invited at no charge. For infor-

Katz to Discuss State's
Jews in the Civil War
Irving I. Katz, executive sec-
retary of Temple Beth El and
vice-president of the Jewish
Historical Society, will speak
on "Michigan Jews in the Civil
War" at the Oak Park Rotary
Club noon Wednesday.
Town and Country
to Present Stage
Show in June
"First Time Around," a. dra-
matic first for the Town and
Country Club, will be held June
3 and 4, President Moe R. Miller
announces.
The show will be preceded by
a dinner and is open to the 570
family membership and one
guest couple for each family.
Seating will be limited on a first-
come reservation basis to be made
at the club office.
Capitalizing on a wealth of tal-,
ent which will involve 80 mem-
bers from its own membership
who have previously appeared in
many local amateur and profes-
sional productions, the show will
be directed by Mrs. Pat (Robert)
Lewiston. Assisting Mrs. Lewis-
ton will be Mrs. Saretta (Gerald)
Mosher.
Jean \ Bortz, working with a
chorus line of 12 members, has
scored the choreography.
Ray Taylor is serving as musi-
cal director and his orchestra will
play for the show.
Other members serving in key
roles are stage manager, Irving
Feldman; costuming, Mrs. Max
Shultz; Paula Bookstein, featured
violinist: and an Advisory Board
of Dr. Jerry Michaels, Dr. Her-
bert Goldstrom and Dr. Hernian
Bennett.
The installation of new of-
ficers and the presentation of
the 16th annual Mildi.ed Simons
Rosenberg Youth Awards will
take place. Officers are Mes-
dames Martin Naimark, presi-
dent; vice presidents, Gerson
Berris, Norman Brode, Joseph
Viedrah and Sam Wasserman;
treasurer, John Nemon; secre-
taries, Oscar Bank, Gerald Gold-
berg, Sam Samuels and Joseph
Sklar; historian, Jack Seder;
parliamentarian, Robert Cog-
gan; and counselor, Philip P.
Fealk.
