Prior to that he had been on
the staff of the Bureau of Jew-
ish Social Research. After hiS
graduation from the University
of Pennsylvania in 1887 (he got
a doctorate there in 1896) he
joined the staff of the Jewish
Exponent in Philadelphia and
served as executive director of
the Jewish Publication Society
of America from 1890 to 1906.
From 1906 to 1910 he was
assistant headworker of Univer-
Sity Settlement in New York.
He served as executive director
of the Hebrew Educational So-
ciety-, Brooklyn, from 1906 to
1910.
Dr. Bernheimer was one of the
founders and a former presi-
dent of the National Association
of Jewish Center Workers. From
1927 until 1946 he was editor
of the Jewish Center Quarterly.
He was the author of books on
Russian Jewish immigration to
the U.S. and on the work of
boys' clubs. He had written ex-
tensively on social work sub-
jects.
He is survived by his widow,
Mrs. Lillian Bernheimer.

nie Roberts.

Russman Dies at 57

home, 23520 Beverly, Oak Park.
He was 57.
Mr. Russman, born in Louis-
ville, Ky., had been with Sams,
Inc., since he moved to Detroit
37 years ago and had risen to
the position of general merchan-
dise manager.
He was a past president of
Downtown Lodge, Bnai Brith,
and was a member of the Greater
Detroit Council of Bnai Brith.
Surviving Mr. Russman are his
wife, Tillie; three sons, Robert,
Paul and Alvin S.; thre brothers,
Abraham, Hyman and Philip;
three sisters, Mrs. Morris Drey-
