Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Marcus
of Oak Park announce the en-
gagement of their daughter,
Fern Ruth, to Eugene Sklar,
son of Mrs. Esther Sklar of San
Juan Ave. and the late Sam
Sklar.
Miss Marcus is a graduate of
the Wayne State University Col-
lege of Education. Her fiance
attends the University of De-
troit School of Dentistry where
he is affiliated with Alpha Om-
ega dental fraternity. He is also
a member of Sigma Alpha Mu
fraternity.
A June wedding is planned.

New Adas Shalom
Sisterhood Book
Reviews Planned

The Sisterhood of Adas Sha-
lom will launch a new book
review series under the co-chair-
manship of Mrs. Philip Helfman
and Mrs. Joseph Katchke. The
first review event will take ,place
on Oct. 18, to be followed by
events on Nov. 22, January 17
ana Feb. 21.
The reviews will be given by
Mrs. Harry Oberstein, Mrs. Jacob
E. Segal, Rabbi M. Robert Syme
and Rabbi Jacob E. Segal. Con-
sultants for the new series in-
chide Mrs. Sol Hammerstein,
president; Mrs. Jacolf E. Segal,
Mrs. Nathan Glenner, Mrs. Mil-
ton Weiss, Mrs. Nicholas Fena-
kel, Mrs. George Bassin and
Mrs. Manny Lax. Publicity for
the series is being handled by
Mrs. Louis E. Levitan.
All the events will be held at
10 a.m. in the social hall and a
continental breakfast will be
served, arranged by Mesdames
Earl Gould and Abe Morrison.
Series tickets may be obtained

In their first game of the sea-
son, the Mumford Mustangs
played 'to a 13-13 tie against the
Central Trailblazers, last Friday.
The team opens the home game
series next week, in a clash with
Southeastern, 3:30 p.m., at Mum-
ford. Included in the game's ac-
tivities will be a colorful half-
time show celebrating M-Week.
Newly chosen members of the
Mumford "Radio Broadcasters"
Guild are: Margaret Burton,
Judee Cohen, Bob Dovitz, Bob
Goldman, Eddie Goldman, John
Heavenrich, Nathan Keller, Lois
Mandiberg, Linda Plein, Susan
Tenenbaum, Jeannie Summers,
Gerald Fife, and Chuck Mintz.
They joined old members at a
club party last Sunday, to build
a float for the M-Week festivities.
Mumford's American Field
Service Club will begin its ac-
tivities with a bottle drive this
Sunday to raise funds. Later in
the month, the group will hold
its annual Halloween party, host-
ing exchange students from the
Detroit area.
Dec. 8 and 9 are the dates of
Mumford's school play this sem-
ester, "The Heiress," based on
the novel "Washington Square,"
b7 Henry James. Student direc-
tor will be Barbara Linden.
The senior class of January
1961 went to the polls to choose
its class officers. Campaigning
for the presidency were Joey
May and Phyllis Lui; for Veep
spot, Wendy Yolles and Pat Fur-
lough; running for secretary,
Thelma Phillips and Sandy 'Yol-
les; for treasurer, Wendy Serwer
and Marshall Korby. Until the
elections are final, the class has
been led by the steering com-
mittee, headed by David Drach-
ler.

featured speaker at the opening
meeting of the Detroit Section,
National Coun-
cil of Jewish
Women, 12:30

Temple Israel.

velopment."

Mrs. Maier Finsterwald, chair-
man of the day, will introduce the
speaker, and Mrs. Edward Kahn
will offer the opening prayer.

National SZO Director
to Speak at Wayne U.

Who Needs Israel?" will be the
subject of a talk to be presented
by Aryeh Simon, national director
of the Student Zionist Organiza-
tion, at a special SZO program
8 p.m., Oct. 9 in the Mart Room,
Student Center, Wayne State Uni-
versity.
Folk dancing, community sing-
ing and refreshments also will be
featured. The public is invited to
attend.

DR. GERALD GURMAN was
reelected president of the De-
troit Tennis and Squash Club,
13200 Grove, at the annual
election of officers. Gurman,
who is the present Detroit city
doubles champion along with
Robert Nederlander, will be
serving his second term as pres-

vice president; and William
