This lesson was given on
Rosh Hashanah — the day on
which the entire story takes
place—immediately after Julian
had voted against admitting a
fellow-Jew, that Holy Day af-
ternoon, into the country club.
It is an interesting story, well
told, bringing to light the trag-
edies of some intermarriages,

revealing the dangers in human
weaknesses, such as Julian's
meekness, bringing to light
also the dignity of self-respect
among Jews and the strength Of
character of non-Jews who re-
fuse to yield to prejudice. With
"His Brother, the Bear," Jack
Ansell emerges as an excellent
novelist.
