Censored JNF Letter
During War; Story
in June Judaica Post

What would seem a harmless
order for Jewish National Fund
materials was confiscated en
route from Salonica, Greece, to
the Hague, Holland, by a
French censor in Marseilles be-
cause the "order for materials
represented an order. for enemy
merchandise." This was on
March 13, 1916.
The entire contents of the en-
velope, including a German
catalogue describing the ma-
terials ordered, has come into
the hands of Edmond Tolkow-
sky, of Antwerp, Belgium, who
describes the cover and its
background in the June issue of
Judaica Post, journal of Phila-
telic Judaica, published here
under the editorship of Eli
Grad.
Also in this sixth issue of
Judaica Post are an article on
Benjamin Disraeli, the prime
minister of Great Britain under
Queen Victoria, written by Har-
old Alter, of Toronto; "Jewish
Refugees Who Were Interned
as Enemies," by Dr. H. H. Hirst,
of Glasgow, Scotland; and an
article on Pierre Masse, French
Resistance fighter, by John
Henry Richter, of Ann Arbor,
Mich.
