Ties Two Top Schools
The West Point United States
Military Academy and Univer-
sity of Wisconsin were recently
held to a stalemate by two
Wayne State representatives at
the 12th annual Invitational
Forensic Conference at Purdue
University.
Joel Mitchell Cohen, 9440
Dexter, and Ronald A. Aronson,
22501 Trojan, Southfield, have
just returned from Lafayette,
Indiana, where they did the
trick.
Cohen and Aronson have the
honor of being elected presi-
dent and vice-president, respec-
tively, of the WSU chapter of
Delta Sigma Rho, national hon-
orary speech fraternity. Both
are Wayne State seniors.
Open Door Gallery, at 18090.
Wyoming, will feature -an exhi-
bition of paintings and other art
works by M. Shomogi, an Is-
raeli artist, starting this Sun-
day and continuing through
Dec. 5.
- Included in the set of origi-
nal works are Israeli scenes,
portraits of several types of
Israelis, synagogues and his-
toric sites.
Also included in the dis-
play are several unique sand
plaques, made of Israeli sand
and other material.
A major work of art in the
exhibition is the large painting,
"Exit of the Children of Israel
M. SHOMOGI
from Egypt," It is the largest
of his- paintings, 28 by 39, and
critics who had seen it in ad-
vance of the exhibit acclaim

The artist is a patient in a
Malben hospital at Mahne, Is-
rael, one of the Joint Distribu-
tion Committee installations in
Israel. In spite of serious physi-
(Plain)
cal handicaps and of his being
crippled by multiple sclerosis
contracted in a Siberian labor
camp, Shomogi has risen above
despair and is constantly creat-
ing artistically in the environ-
ment provided for him by the
Jewish Agency.
Sharon Rosenthal is arranging
the exhibition for the Open.
Door Gallery. Its owner, 'Sam
Field, said he considers it a
communal duty to bring these
works to the attenttion of the
a
Detroit public.
It is felt by the sponsors
that the presentation of these
art works will call attention
to the works of those aided
by Malben and that their sale
here will enable the artist to
continue with his future

works.
