WASHINGTON, (JTA)-Con-
tinuance of American grant aid
to Israel is definitely recom-
mended by the House Foreign
Affairs Committee in a draft
report on the Mutual Security
Act,
Cong. Barra t t O'Hara (D.,
Ill.) said the report "definitely
pins down the Administration
to continuing special assistance
to Israel at the current level in
the new program." This special
assistance granted to Israel in
the current fiscal year amounts
to $7,500,000.
The Administration original-
ly planned to discontinue this
type of aid to Israel in 1960.
After members of both the
House Foreign Affairs Commit-
tee and the Senate Foreign Re-
lations Committee voiced oppo-
sition to this intention, Under-
secretary of State C. Douglas
Dillon expressed willingness to
reconsider the decision, and to
restore the grant aid.
