The eight-day festival of Pass-
over, which begins Wednesday
night, April 22, and concludes
on Thursday, April 30, will be
celebrated in a variety of ways
in the community and by the
synagogues of which they are
members.
Orthodox a n d Conservative
Jews will hold services Wednes-
day and Thursday nights, prior
to their home sedorim and
services on Thursday and Fri-
day mornings, while Reform
Jews will celebrate the seder
at home on Wednesday, and
hold s e r v ices on Thursday
morning.
At both Temple Beth El and
Temple Israel, congregational
sedorim are planned for the
second night of Passover. The
first night is traditionally a fam-
ily celebration.
Orthodox and Conservative
Jews will conduct a search for
the C h o e t z on Tuesday
night, which formally ushers
in the season, while both Con-
servative and Orthodox syna-
gogues will hold Si y u m
b'Chorim services—the tradi-
tional religious celebration
for first-born sons on Wednes-
day morning.
Following is a schedule of
services planned in our syna-
gogues and other Passover plans
being made . by organizations
and religious schools:
Beth Aaron Synagogue
Passover services will be held
at 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, with
services Thursday and Friday
being held at 8:30 a.m. and
6:45 p.m. Rabbi Benjamin H.
Gorrelick will conduct the serv-
ices and preach the sermons on
"Life Abundant Under Free-
dom" and "The Jewish Concep-
tion of Noblesse Oblige."
The ritual will be chanted by
Cantor Ihil Gildin. Siyum
b'Chorim services Wednesday
will begin at 7 a.m.
Adas Shalom Synagogue
This Sunday, pupils of the
religious school will participate
in three pre-Passover programs.
Kindergarten through fourth
grade will witness a model seder
presented by the fifth graders;
grades five to seven will have
their own sedorim; and the
upper grades will view film-
strips and slides and hear an
address by Noam Shudofsky.
Cong. Bnai Moshe
Passover -services will be held
in the Dexter-Lawrence syna-
gogue, beginning at 7:15 a.m.,
Wednesday, with the Siyum
b'Chorim service. That evening,
services will begin at 6:30 p.m.,
as they will on Thursday, while
Friday evening services are at
6:45 p.m.
Morning services are sched-
uled for 8:45 a.m., both days.
Rabbi Moses Lehrman will
preach on "Adventures in Free-
dom" and "Incentives for Liv-
ing."
Sholem Aleichem Institute
At 6:30 p.m., Thursday, a
Passover community seder is
planned, featuring a full-course
dinner. Moishe Haar will con-
duct the seder, ,using a unique
tri-lingual Haggadah. For res-

Cong. Shomrey Emunah
Regular morning services
at '7:15 a.m., Wednesday, will
be followed by the traditional
dispensation of the fast for
the first born. Evening serv-
ices Wednesday, Thursday
and Friday will be at '7:15
p.m., with morning services
Thursday and Friday at 9 a.m.
Rabbi Sholem Flam will con-
duct the services and preach
the sermon.
Temple Beth El
"Out of the House of Bond-
age" is the sermon topic of
Rabbi Sherwin T. Wine at Pass-
over services planned for 10:30
a.m., Thursday. The annual Con-
gregational Seder will take
place at 6:30 p.m., that eve-
ning, in the Franklin Memorial
Hall.
Cong. Gemiluth Chassodim
Rabbi Joel J. Litke will speak
on "Bread of Affliction" and
"Here the Child Asks" at serv-
ices planned for 8:45 a.m.,
Thursday and Friday. Evening
services start at 7 p.m., all
days. The liturgy will be chant-
ed by Alex Roberg.
Children of the religious
school will hold their annual
model seder at 11 a.m., Sun-
day, at 4000 Tuxedo. All classes
will join for the program, which
will be led by Stephen Wild-
strom and Betty Lowenthal. The
Women's Group will serve Pass-
over dishes. Paul Mosbach is
the adult chairman.
Rothenberg, dean of the Yeshi-
vath Chachmey Lublin, will
speak on "Passover Today" and
"Four Types of Sons."
Downtown Synagogue
Under sponsorship of the
Isaac Agree Memorial Society,
George A. Agree, president,
Passover services will be held
at 5:15 p.m. and 8 a.m., each
day. Rev. Morris Cooper will
conduct the services at the syna-
gogue, 1442 Griswold, and also
will lead sedorim on both Wed-
nesday and Thursday nights.
Cong. Mishkan Israel
An afternoon Bible class,
meeting at 5:30 p.m., Saturday,
will be led by Rabbi Isaac Stoll-
man in a "Talmudic Review of
the Laws of Passover."

Young Israel Names
Chairmen For Banquet
David I. Berris, general chair-
man of the 36th anniversary
banquet of Young Israel of De-
troit, this week announced the
appointment of Charles T. Gell-
man and Rabbi Eugene Green-
field as chairman and co-chair-
man, respectively, of the ban-
quet committee.
Also named, as chairman of
the committee on arrangements,
was Milton Traurig. The ban-
quet will take place on May 6,
at Holiday Manor.
Irving I. Bunim, a national
leader in the Young Israel
movement, will be guest speak-
er, and there will be musical
entertainment by Cantor Hyman
J. Adler, guitarist Sholomo
Carelbach and Sam Barnett's
orchestra.
Proceeds of the event will
further activities of the organ-
ization's youth groups and sab-
bath programs of the youth de-
partment.
