Circle Chorus Plans Music Month Concert

The reorganized Workmen's
Circle Chorus of Detroit, under
the direction of Abraham Silver,
will make its first public appear-
ance, in honor of Jewish Music
Month, at 8:30 p.m., Feb. 22, at
the Workmen's Circle Center,
18340 West 7 Mile.
The chorus of 35 singers will
feature songs in Yiddish, He-
brew and English, along with a
cantata depicting the life and
works of Mark Warshawski, cre-
ator of such songs as Oifn Pri-
pitchek, Tayere Malke, and Di
Mizinske Oysgegebn. The can-

Julius Chajes, director of music at the Jewish Center,
will present Miss Rita Sloan, 15-year-old pianist, in a recital
at 2:30 p.m., Feb. 22, at the Davison Jewish Center. She
will play compositions by Scarlatti, Beethoven, Schumann, Chopin
and Chajes and piano pieces by Julius Isserlis and Arkadie
Kougell, to be heard for the first time here.
Miss Ingrid Boodin, of Snowden Ave., recently celebrated
her 16th birthday at a luncheon for 20 friends at Stouffer's
at Northland Center.
Mr. and Mrs. Barney Woronoff, of W. Grand Ave., recently
returned from a two-week stay in Los Angeles, Calif., where
they celebrated their silver wedding anniversary. A surprise
party in their honor was given by former Detroiters, Mr.
and Mrs. Joe Platt and Mr. and Mrs. Al Shifrin.
Mr. and Mrs. Jay Wainer, of Canterbury Rd., have returned
from a week's stay in New York, where Mr. Wainer attended
the Automobile Accessories convention.

In a candlelight ceremony
Jan. 25, at Adas Shalom Syna-
gogue, Marlene Elaine Newman,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Louis
Newman, of Greenlawn Ave.,
was united in marriage to
Milton Arnold Meyers, son of
Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Meyers,
of Burton Ave., Oak Park. Rabbi
Jacob E. Segal and Cantor Nich-
olas Fenakel officiated.
For her wedding, the bride
chose a gown of ivory taffeta
with elbow-length sleeves and a
court train. The round neckline
was appliqued with lace and tiny
seed pearls. Her two-tiered veil
of white silk illusion fell to her
fingertips from a headpiece
once worn by her mother, and
she carried white orchids,
stephanotis and lily-of-the-valley
on confirmation Bible.
Mrs. Herman Bennett, sister
of the bridegroom, was matron
of honor, and bridesmaids were
Mrs. Sidney Forbes, Mrs. Eliot
Bank, Mrs. Jack Serling, Elaine
Bremer and Didi Fineberg.
Flower girls were Laurie Beth
and Debra Sue Bennett, twin
nieces of the bridegroom.
Attending the bridegroom was
his brother-in-law, Dr. Herman
Bennett, as best man, while seat-
ing the guests were the bride's
brothers, Michael and Stewart
Newman, Eliot Bank, Murray
Goodwin, Richard Green and
Martin Gorosh.
After honeymooning briefly,
the couple has taken up tempor-
ary residence in Chicago, where
Mr. Meyers is resuming his
studies at the Illinois College of
Optometry.

True Sisters Dinner
to Aid Cancer Work

The annual dinner-dance of
the United Order of -True Sis-
ters will be held at 7;30 p.m..
Saturday, at the Whittier Hotel,
with Hal Gordon and his or-
chestra furnishing the music.
Proceeds will support various
charities of the True Sisters,
prime among which have been
radioisotope endowments made
to Detroit Memorial Hospital.
Only last month. the group
provided a S2,500 suite for stor-
ing radio-isotope equipment at
the hospital and gave an addi-
tional S700 grant for treatment
plus three television sets for
the use of cancer patients.
It is also pointed out by - Mrs.
Harris Crane, president, that
members offer their services as
part of the hospital's volunteer
program.

1'a teaspoon ginger
1 teaspoon salt
1 4 teaspoon pepper
11/2 cups _cock or bouillon
2 cups rooked rice

1 tablespoon shortening
11/2 pounds diced lamb shoulder
1 cup sliced onions
3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon mint-flavored
apple jelly
2 teaspoons curry powder

Melt shortening. Add lamp and onions. Cook over medium heat
until lamb is browned on all sides. Add flour, apple jelly, curry
powder, ginger, salt, pepper and stock or bouillon. Cover and cook
over medium heat 11/2 hours, stirring occasionally. Serve over rice.

60 Center Teen-Agers to
Join Tamarack Outing

Sixty teen-ages from the Jew-
ish Community Centers of
Detroit, Windsor, and Toledo
are gathering for their second
annual inter-city weekend at
Camp Tamarack, today through
Sunday.
A weekend of sports, winter-
fun, sabbath programs and
socials is planned. Teens will
lead discussions on the topic
"What is a Jew?"
Registration for this event is
limited. For information con-

Detroit members of Habonim.
Labor Zionist youth group. will
have a visit this weekend from ,
Chuck Lederberger, central ad-
viser to the national organiza-
tion in New York.
Lederberger is presently
touring the country to ascer-
tain the progress of the local
groups and to sign up 60 par-
ticipants for the annual Ha-
bonim Workshop in Israel.
He will be featured at a
special program of local Ha-
bonim at 8 p.m., Saturday, in
the Hayim Greenberg Center.
The public is invited.

Detroit Edison's 1 9 5 9 con-
struction program for expansion
of the company's electric power
system and related facilities
calls for the expenditure of an
estimated $68,000,000.
This year's construction activ-
ities are part of a long-range
plan projected through 1963 and
evaluated at more than S300,-
000,000, or an average of ap-
proximately 560,000,000 annual-
ly. Budgets for succeeding years
must of course be kept adjust-
able to fluctuations in growth
requirements.
