a testimonial luncheon honor-
ing Mrs. Robert A. Coggan,
president of Women's District
No: 6 at 12:30 p.m., Feb. 10, at
Holiday Manor.
Mrs. Coggan, past president of
the Detroit Council, helped to
organize a n d
served as first
president o f
the East Side
Chapter in
1942.
In the gen-
eral commun-
ity, Mrs. Cog-
gan began
work in civic
organizations
Mrs. Coggan back in 1934,
when she worked on the com-
munity chest drives, now the
Torch Fund. In 1953 under aus-
pices °of the Detroit Round
Table of Catholics, Jews and
Protestants, she was the first
woman in Detroit invited to as-
sume a chairmanship to promote
Brotherhood on a city-wide
level.
An active member of Temple
Israel. where she and her fam-
ily are members, Mrs. Coggan
has served on many committees,
is a past president of the Sister-
hood and is presently chairman ,
of the religious school board.
Overall chairman for the
event is Mrs. Charles Solovich,
vice-president of national Bnai
Brith Women. Past Presidents
of Detroit Council make up the
committee planning the testi-
monial.

Institute on Judaism
A one-day. Institute on Juda-
ism is being planned by the
Greater Detroit Bnai Brith
Women's Council from 9:45 a.m.
to 3 p.m., Thursday, .in the so-
cial hall of Cong. Ahavas Achim,
19190 Schaefer.
Rabbi Max Kapustin, director
of the Hillel Foundation at
Wayne State University, will be
guest lecturer. His topic is "Un-
derstanding the Bible Today."
According to Mrs. Harry Bod-
zin, chairman of Jewish affairs
for the Council, there also will
be a panel discussion on "Re-
ligion for the Modern Jew."
Sharing the platform will be
Rabbi M. Robert Syme, of
Temple Israel; Rabbi Samuel H.
Prero, of Young Israel: and
Rabbi Moses Lehrman, of Cong.
Bnai Moshe.
A question and answer period
will follow each major session.
There will be a small charge

The role of legislation in
halting discrimination in hous-
ing, education and employment
will be discussed by a panel
of experts in a program spon-
sored by the Business and Pro-
fessional Chapter of the Ameri-
can Jewish Congress.
The discusssion will take
place at 8:30 p.m., Wednesday,
at the Hayim Greenberg Cen-
ter. Panelists who will partici-
pate are Donald Slaiman, re-
gional director of Jewish Labor
Committee and secretary of the
Coordinating Council for Civil
Rights; Donald Stevens, educa-
tional director of Michigan State
AFL-CIO; and Arthur L. John-
son, executive secretary of the
Detroit NAACP.
