One of three candidates to
file petitions for the office of
Mayor of Oak Park in the forth-
coming spring election is Abel
J. Selburn, a practicing attor-
ney for 17 years, who lives at
14339 Oak Park Blvd.
Selburn, who attended Wayne
State University and graduated
from the Detroit College of Law,
entered the race because he
feels there is "considerable
waste and inefficiency in the
present city government"
He is campaigning for the
separation of the Public Safety
Office into individual police and
fire departments.
Selburn is a member of Tem-
ple Israel, Pisgah Lodge of Bnai
Brith, Michigan Bar Association,
National Association of Claim-
ants Compensation Attorneys
and other professional societies.

Hilarious New Volume by Myron Cohen: 'Laughing Out Loud'

Myron Cohen has been here
often. He is known on TV and
radio programs and to audi-
ences throughout the land whom
he has enter-
tained with
his funny
stories.
He is a mas-
ter story-teller,
and he proves
it in his new
book of jokes
and anecdotes,

Citadel Press (222 4th, N. Y. 3).
His life story explains how
he got to telling jokes and how
he mounted the entertainer's

stories, but he sold less - rather
than more silk as a result.
In 1948, at a popular dining
place, he was advised to go out
on the floor and entertain all
the patrons rather than only
those at his table. He did—and

that started his career on the
public platform.
The stories he tells in his
book really combine to form
an autobiographical confessional.
He tells how he told stories, to
whom he told them, what he
said, how he said them.
The result is well known. He
is in constant demand wherever
he goes.
His "Laughing Out Loud" is
a running story — of his nar-
rations at the Copa, his story-
telling in Miami (Miami Mirth),
how he amused at Atlantic City
and Las Vegas, his hilarious
chapter on "there's no people
like show people," his gags for
gourmets which will keep his
readers in stitches and finally
"Cohen at Home."

There is no doubt about it:
he is an excellent story-teller.
His humor is the Catskill type,
the sort that goes over big at
night clubs. It does not answer
the question "what is Jewish
humor?" because his is the
humor of the salesmen, of the
entertainment world. It fills a
need—on the stage as it does in
his book.
