this week extended formal rec-
ognition to the new regime in
Cuba. • Mrs. Golda Meir, Israel's
Foreign Minister, in a cable to
the new Cuban Foreign Minis-
try, said Israel wished to con-
tinue relations and sincere
friendship and mutual under-
standing with Cuba.
Meanwhile, in Havana, char-
acterized as "baseless' a report
from Miami that 125 Jewish en-
terprises in Havana were looted
by mobs -during the 'chaotic
transition days in the city last
week. The report emanated
from American Jewish tourists
who arrived in Miami from Ha-
vana immediately following the
collapse of the Bastista regime.
It was learned here that sev-
eral Jews hold command posts
in the Castro forces. Also, that
a Jewish physician, Dr. Miz-
rachi, had been with the Castro
rebels in the hills providing
them with medical aid.
