exhibiting in the 45th annual
exhibition at the National Acad-
emy of Design, 1083 Fifth Ave.,
New York, following acceptance
of her work by Allied Artists
of America, Inc. The exhibit
runs through Nov. 16. Mrs.
Gaines also completed two other
exhibitions, one at the 45th an-
nual Women's International Ex-
position, and the other, a one-
woman show at the Crespi Gal-
lery, both in New York.

Judah L. Magnus Chair Book Fair to Present
Endowed at Hebrew U. Dr. Moses A. Shulvas

NEW YORK (JTA)—Estab-
lishment of a $100,000 Judah
L. Magnes Chair in Middle
East Studies at the Hebrew
University of Jerusalem was
announced at a memorial meet-
ing observing the tenth anni-
versary of the death of Dr.
Magnes, first chancellor and
later president of the Hebrew
University.
This is the second $100,000
chair at the University an-
nounced in a week. The first
chair was an Eleanor Roosevelt
Chair in Humanities to be en-
dowed by the Women's Divi-
sion of the American Friends
of the University.

Kvutzah Ivrith, Hebrew cul-
ture group, in co-operation with
the Jewish Community Center
book fair committee, will spon-
sor two addresses in Hebrew
by Dr. Moses A. Shulvas, on
Nov. 24.
Dr. Shulvas, noted historian
and author, wil speak at 3 p.m.,
at the Rose Sittig Cohen Build-
ing, 13266 Lawton. His topic
will be Graetz's "History of the
Jews."
At 8 p.m., that evening, Dr.
Shulvas will speak at the Dav-
ison branch. He will discuss
"The Jews and Their Books."
Both talks are open to the
public without charge.

Dr. Julius Braunthal, noted
European labor leader, will be
in Detroit for a one-day visit,
when he speaks at 8:30 p.m.,
today, in the Hayim Greenberg

The program is under the
joint sponsorship of the Labor
Zionist movement of Detroit,
Workmen's Circle, Americans
for Democratic Action and the
Jewish Labor Committee.
A native of Austria, who
now makes his home in Eng-
land, he is currently on a
world lecture tour, speaking
on "Israel and the Awakening
of Asia."
