Dr. Richard C. Hertz, spiritual
leader of Temple Beth El, and
author of the popular new book,
"Prescription for Heartache,"
will be a feature speaker at the
seventh annual Jewish Book
Fair at the Davison Jewish Cen-
ter, it was announced by Morris
Garvett, Book Fair chairman.
Rabbi Hertz's book has been ac-
cepted for newspaper syndica-
tion.
Dr. Hertz will appear on the
Women's Day program, Monday,
Nov. 24. Book Fair dates are
Nov. 22, 23 and 24.
Senior rabbi of Temple Beth
El, Dr. Hertz was ordained with
honors at Hebrew Union Col-
lege in 1942. He did his under-
graduate work at the University
of Cincinnati (1938) and his
post-graduate work at the Uni-
versity of Chicago and North-
western university, w h e r e he
earned his Ph.D. degree in the
field of religious education
(1948).
Rabbi Hertz has been a fre-
quent contributor to Jewish and
secular journals and is the

rently vice-chairman of t h e
American Jewish Committee, De-
troit Chapter. In 1954, he was
the American Legion's Michi-
gan Department Chaplain, and
in 1956 was Department Chap-
lain for the Jewish War Vet-
erans. In 1957 he served as
chairman of the Committee for
the Junior Chamber of Com-
merce to chose Detroit's "man
of the year."
He is a member of a number

Three Rabbis to Serve at Beth El
Following Action by Temple Board

John C. Hopp, president of
Temple Beth El, announces
that for the first time in the
108-year history of the temple,
the board of trustees has de-
cided to increase its rabbinical
staff to three rabbis.
This action on the part of the
board was prompted by the fact
that Beth El now has an all-
time high membership of 1,756
families, a religious school en-
rollment of 1,327, six auxiliary
organizations and an expanded

Rabbi Wohlgelernter

An oneg shabbat, jointly
sponsored by Cong. Beth Ye-
hudah and Young Israel of
Northwest Detroit, will be held
in honor of Rabbi M. J. Wohl-
gelernter at 8 p.m., today, at
the former synagogue, 17376
Wyoming.
According to Meyer Levin,
Beth Yehudah president, and
Harty L. Blitz, president of
Young Israel, Rabbi Wohlgel-
ernter, secretary to the Israel
Chief Rabbinate, will speak on
"The Religious Struggle in Is-
rael."
A question and answer period
will follow. Hostesses will be
headed by Mesdames David
Novetsky and Pearl Koenigs-
berg, of the Beth Yehudah Sis-
terhood and Ladies Auxiliary,
respectively, and Mrs. Gus Lew,
of Northwest Young Israel Sis-
terhood.
Rabbi Wohlgelernter will also
deliver the sermon at sabbath
morning services of Northwest
Young Israel, and at 5 p.m.,
Saturday, he will be the guest
of Cong. Beth Yehudah at a
Sholosh Sudot program.
