The unpredictability of the
future of the Middle East is
turning even the boldest of
government leaders cautious, as
exemplified by the presence in
Detroit this week of Joseph L.

Japan to Exhibit
in New Israel Gallery

, TOKYO (JTA)—A Japanese
professor disclosed here that he
will direct an all-Japanese fine
arts gallery scheduled to open
next March in the Israeli city
of Haifa.
The professor is Tomozaburo
Yamada of Tokyo's Kyoritsu
University. Yamada, member of
the operating committee of Ja-
pan's National Museum of Mod-
ern Arts, was offered the post
by Felix Ticotin, a Dutch art
merchant from The Hague who
is sponsoring the Haifa gallery.
The gallery will be Japan's
first fine arts exhibition hall
to open abroad. Haifa is ex-
pected to finance half the con-
struction cost of the one-story,
Japanese-style building. A Jap-
anese artisan is expected to :Je
asked to design the interior. A
nine-man board of Japanese art
leaders was formed in Tokyo
this week-end to handle the
Haifa project.
