Dayan Scores Studentsfor 'Indifference'

Three important new research
papers were issued this week
by the Bureau of Social and
Economic Research of the Can-
adian Jewish Congress, under
the direction of Louis Rosen-
berg.
One of them deals with the
changes in the Jewish popula-
tion in the old area of Jewish
settlement in Montreal, from
1951 to 1957.
Rosenberg's comments on
Jewish migration movements
generally are especially rele-
vant to this study.
A second brochure contains
Rosenberg's statistical study of
synagogues, Jewish schools, and
other Jewish community facil-
ities as they are affected by the
migration of the Jewish popu-
lation in Metropolitan Montreal.
The third pamphlet is the text
of an address by Rosenberg on
"Changing Needs of the Jewish
Community."

Fire Fighters Admit
Jew After Dispute

ELLENVILLE, N.Y., (JTA)
—One of three volunteer fire
companies here eased a sharp
public controversy over bias
against Jewish members by
electing a Jew to membership
for the first time since it was
founded in 1872.
The Scoresby Hose company
announced it had elected Al-
bert Kalen, a plumber and resi-
dent of Ellenville for 15 years.
The action followed a threat by
Mayor Eugene Glusker to cut
off town funds to the three
groups for their bias policies.
None had any Jewish members
but all denied discrimination.
Kimble Hose company said
it had Jewish -members in the
past. Pioneer Engine Company
said it had turned down appli-
cations from Jews but not on
religious grounds.

Army and now a student at
