A call upon the attorney
General of the United States to
take appropriate action in the
recent bombings of religious
institutions and schools in the
South was issued by the dele-
gates at the three-day 17th an-
nual convention of the Depart-
ment of Michigan, Jewish War
Veterans of the United States.
The convention adopted a
resolution urging favorable ac-
tion on a bill, H. R. 12667, intro-
duced by the Representative of
Michigan, Martha W. Griffiths,
to prohibit certain acts involv-
ing the importation, transpor-
tation, possession, or use of
explosives. This measure will
enable Federal agencies in the
apprehension of lawless ele-
ments and criminals involved
Ben Chasin, national com-
mander of the Jewish War Vet-
erans, who was the principal
speaker at the parley held at
JWV Memorial Hdme, com-
mended the Allied Veterans
Council of Wayne County for
its vigorous stand in deploring
the recent bombings in the
South as manifestations of un-
American defiance of our tra-
ditions and an insult to our
Nation's honor.
Installed as the new heads
of the Department of Michigan
at the concluding session were:
John Nemon, Department corn:
mander; Ray Newman, senior
vice commander; Rube Zissman,
junior vice commander; Louis
Kogan, quartmaster; Al Colman,
judge advocate; Al Bricker,
chief of staff.
Mrs. Oscar Katz was installed
as president of the ladies auxili-
ary of the Department of Michi-
gan; Mrs. John Nemon, senior
vice president; Mrs. Seymour
Kraft, junior vice president;
Mrs. Nathan Feld, treasurer;
Mrs. Harry Partrich, patriotic
instructor; Mrs. Al Rosen, con-
ductress; Mrs. Roland Gottes-
man, guard; Mrs. Sidney Sam-
uels, historian; Mrs. Harry
Cohen, chaplain; Mrs. Sam Spo-
Ian, chief of staff.
Among the distinguished
guests who attended the banquet
Sunday at Beth Shalom Con-
gregation in Oak Park, which
marked the close of the conven-
tion were Lt. Gov. Philip A.
Hart, Senator Charles E. Potter
and representatives of various
civic and veterans groups.

JWV to Be Hosts
at Kiddieland

John Nemon, newly-elected
commander of the Department
of Michigan Jewish War Vet-
erans, this week announced
that as part of the JWV child
welfare program a Kiddieland
Day will be sponsored on Tues-
day.
Members of JWV will take
over the park, W. 8 Mile near
Schafer, from 11 a.m. to 10
p.m., to raise funds to be used
for servicing youngsters at the
Juvenile Detention Home, Chil-
dren's Hospital, to aid children
of veterans and carry out its
scholarship program.
Over 400 orphans from local
institutions will be the guests
of JWV, and will be given free
rides and refreshments. Local
merchants, organizations and
individuals may participate by
sponsoring a group of orphans
or by bringing their own
youngsters.

Evergreen Sisterhood
Elects Mrs. Wilner

Evergreen Congregation Sis-
terhood will hold its final meet-
ing of the season this Wednes-
day afternoon, at the Hayim
Greenberg Center, 19161 Schae-
fer.
Mrs. George Karber, vice-
president of program, advises
that Mrs. Henry Berris, guest
speaker, will review Myron
Kaufman's best-selling novel,
"Remember Me to God."
At a recent meeting of the
group, Mrs. Samuel Wilner was
elected president. She will be
assisted by Mesdames Coleman
Kovan, George Karber, Sheldon
Manson and Raymond Bern-
stein, vice-presidents; Morrey
Kantor, Harry Shiovitz and
Zolton Glantz, secretaries; and
Leo Papp, treasurer.
Named as trustees and serv-
ing in the following capacities
will be Mesdames Aaron Katz-
man, housing; Lawrence Tere-
belo, telephone; Norman Ja-
cobs, bulletin; Bess Goldberg,
gift shop; -David Simon, sun-
shine; Charles Bassin, hospi-
tality; Harold Eskovitz, oneg
shabbat; Frank Sherman, pub-
licity; Norman Smith, refresh-
ments; and Maxwell Nadis,
social action.
Sisterhood past presidents,
Mesdames Franklin Levy, Ed-
ward Waldman and Albert
Heideman, will serve., respec-
tively, as parliamentarian and
chairmen of the nomination and
evaluation committees.
