Withdraw Passport from German Teacher

OFFENBURG (JTA) — The
Ministry of Interior has ordered
a passport held by Ludwig
Zind, suspended local , high
school teacher, withdrawn to
prevent his departure abroad
"to make anti-Semitic propa-
ganda."
Zind is currently free pend-
ing an appeal against a prison
sentence imposed by a local
court which found him guilty of
publicly libelling Jews and ma-

ligning the memory of Jews
murdered by the Nazis. Wit-
nesses testified that he had ex-
pressed the view that Hitler
had not gassed enough Jews.
More than 3,000 German
youths assembled at Bergen-
Belsen to participate in memo-
rial services on the site of the
former Nazi death camp. The
pilgrimage was organized by the
Society of Christians and Jews
and the Anne Frank Group.

LISTENING

A RARITY IN the community
is having two very fine amateur
shows by separate organizations
following on the heels of each
other . . . with Detroit Lodge
Chapter of Bnai Brith's musical
revue, "Cover To Cover", slated
next after SOC Hadassah's won-
derful show, "Flaming Youth".
• * "

DETROIT CHAPTER'S
straight musical revue was orig-
inally scheduled for only one
night, Tuesday, May 27, but
every one of the 1250 seats at
the Art Institute have been all
sold out for that eve and there
has been such a big demand for
tickets that only last week, it
was decided to hold the show
another night . . . Monday, May
26 .. . the p.m. before the one
time only date.
* * *
TAVY STONE, director and
producer of "Cover to Cover"
has also written the script, with
each number based on a differ-
ent magazine . .. an idea that
came to the gal with so much
talent while doing her regular
household routine of tossing out
clusters of reading matter lying
around the house . . . Tavy and
husband William are so maga-
zine conscious that they sub-
scribe to about 20 periodicals.
. . . All told, 22 publications will
be represented in the show by
40 guys 'n gals onstage (mem-
bers and husbands) plus one
dog, who have been rehearsing
since January in putting togeth-
er a wonderful two hours of
continuous singing and dancing.
* * *
CHATTING ALONG...
"Cover To Cover" . . . Shirley
Rosenberg (True Confessions)
is back from Europe with hubby
Eddie in plenty of time for her
laughable comedienne antics ala
big time . . . Harold Roland
(True Adventure) suffers no
letdown from his fine part in
the SOC Hadassah show . . .
He ran from one rehearsal to
another and will continue along
with his swell bits in the De-
troit revue . . . Brunette Harriet
Goldberg (Motor Aid) will have
to be a blonde for the show
since William Stone's song num-
ber to her refers to a fair haired
lassie . . . Days of auditioning
clogs was climaxed by selection
of Alice Fogel's French poodle,
"Nicky" who howls soprano as
the lead for a Dog World maga-
zine scene . . . Vocalizing back-
ground will be by human beings
Bob Silver, Joe Teitelbaum,
Norm Palmer and Jeff Wachter.
. . . Only problem so far is that
Alice doesn't know yet what
color to make "Nicky" for the
show! . . . Ellery Queen mystery
magazine story will be danced
out by Roselle Alter, Linda
Lewis, Bill Zuppner and Jerry
Schwab . . . Roselle, by the way,
stepped into an emergency and
also took over the choreography
for the entire Detroit show, de-
signing all the dances, etc. . . .
Beverlee Palmer stepped out of
the dance chorus to bosslady
dance direction for the show.
. . . Chuck Laven is painting a
group of oversized cartoons
from the New Yorker .. . Dan
Braude, musical director, has
done a huge portion of the show
arrangements and will also
wave the baton as director of
the Johnny Trafton 11-piece or-
chestra . . . Dan majored in
music at Northwestern Univer-

sity, and studied violin for the
concert stage . . Mamie Law-
son has her easy on the ear
song soloing for The Ladies
Home Journal . . . After so so
long, Norman Wachter finally
gathered enough nerve to shave
off his mustache, an heroic bit
indeed, but didn't look dignified
enough so had to grow it back
for his Fortune magazine num-
ber . . . Ben Stein won't need
the mustache he used to wear
for his lead role in a True De-
tective production of "The Trial
of Lizzie Borden" . . . A group
of non-hit song selections from
hit shows as Variety would have
compiled the listing will be
sung by Shirley Rosenberg, Peg-
gy Miller, Harold Roland, Norm
Wachter and William Stone .. .
Mary Fuller (House & Garden)
reads a monologue based on the
problems of living in a contem-
porary home that blends in so
well with the background that
he can't find it! . . .

MARION FULLER is outgo-
ing president of Detroit BB
Chapter . . . and Doris Topy the
incoming pres. this coming fall.
