School Council
Sponsors Awards
for Teachers

All teachers engaged in
schools affiliated with the Direc-
tors' Council of the Jewish
Religious Schools of Metropoli-
tan Detroit are eligible to enter
an education award competition
sponsored by the Council.
Three awards of $100 each
are being offered by the Council
for project ideas submitted for
their consideration. The projects
should be of a nature That
would further or implement the
objectives of a religious school.
The idea may be either one
used successfully by an individ-
ual teacher, or an untried proj-
ect.
Entries must be submitted by
July 1. Papers will be judged
on the basis of practicality and
eventual benefit to the religious
schools.
Entries must be typewritten
in duplicate (send both copies),
double-spaced on 8 1/2 x11 paper.
There is no minimal or maximal
length, but all entries should
be of sufficient length and
scope, so that it may readily
be adapted in its completed
form for classroom use.
All the following points
should be covered: purpose of
the project, grade level suit-
ability, techniques of presenta-
tion, utilization of materials and
involvement of students, and
an evaluation of the project.
Entries should be mailed to
Allen Warsen, 21721 Parklawn,
Oak Park 37, Mich. The name
and address of the contributor,
as well as his phone number,
grade level and name of reli-
gious school should accompany
each entry. Winners will be
notified in September.

Farband Slates Two
Lecture Programs

Farband will present IVIovsas
Goldoftas in the fifth of a lec-
ture series, "Builders and
Founders of Israel," at 9 p.m.,
Saturday, at the Hayim Green-
berg Center, 19161 Schaefer.
The topic will be, "The Great
Scholar and Leader—Rabbi Yo-
chanan Ben Zakay."
Also planned by the Farband
is a Shavuot celebration to be
held on May 26 at the center.
Guest speaker will be Albert
Elazar, United Hebrew Schools
superintendent. Israeli, Yiddish
and liturgical songs by Cantor
Ruven Frankel will be featured.
Both events are free and re-
freshments are served.
