Activities

The annual convention of the
Memorial Home Association of
the Jewish War Veterans will
be held this Sunday, beginning
at 10 a.m., in the Silverman
Room of the Home, states Wal-
ter E. Klein, MHA president.
The organization operates
and administrates the building
that was erected and dedicated
to the 300 Jewish boys from
Michigan who gave their lives
in the military service of their
country.
A highlight of the business
sessions will be the election of
new officers, chosen by vote of
delegates from each of the
Posts and Auxiliaries compris-
ing the JWV Department of
Michigan.
Following the regular agenda,
at 1 p.m., there will be the
dedication of a portrait of Capt.
Rubin Iden, the first Jewish
boy from Detroit to be killed
in World War II. The Marine
pilot died when the dive
bomber he piloted was shot
down in the vicinity of Guadal-
canal.
Among the participants in
the ceremonies will be Klein,
Ralph Epstein, JWV comman-
der; Mrs. Morton H. Oppen-
heim, JWVA president; and
Aaron Canner, president of the
Gold Star Parents.

Mr. and Mrs. William Brook-
stein, of Sorrento -Ave., an-
nonunced the engagement of
their daughter, Harriet Frances,
to Sal Gorge, son of Mr. and
Mrs. Morris Jacob, of West-
moreland Ave. A Dec. 14 wed-
ding is planned.

Habonim Slate Cantata
as Salute to Israel

A program honoring Israel
will be presented at 8:30 p.m.,
May 23, by the Habonim Labor
Zionist Youth Organization at
the Hayim Greenberg Center,
19161 Schaefer.
The "Neshef" will consist of
a cantata in four parts. Each
part will depict a different as-
pect of Israel's growth and de-
velopment_ They are, "Absorp-
tion of Immigrants," "Develop-
ment," "Defense" and "Future."
The program will include
singing, dancing, narrative and
choral reading and dramatic art
forms. Following the program,
group singing and refreshments
will be featured. Tickets may be
obtained from Habonim mem-
bers or at the Greenberg Center.

Men's Clubs I

Maurice Samuel, noted author
and lecturer, will speak at a
program sponsored by the
ADAS SHALOM MEN'S CLUB
at 8:30 p.m., May 12, in the
synagogue social hall. The com-
munity is invited at no admis-
sion charge.

Heinz Milchig Noodle Ring

Culminating a year of plan-
ning and a century of existence,
the history of Central comes
alive at the Centennial Pageant
in its second performance at
8 p.m. today, in the Rackham
Memorial Building, Woodward
and Farnsworth.
The presentation opens with
a happy birthday song—an orig-
inal version as are all the num-
bers in the pageant.
The entire production will in-
clude 15 scenes of Central's
long and proud history empha-
sizing all the buildings which
the school has occupied. Eighty-
one 'Lites comprise the immense
cast.

Council Resolution Honors L. A. Fleischman

A resolution honoring Law-
rence A. Fleischman, of 19480
Burlington Dr., for his efforts
in promoting Detroit as an art
center and for his generous sup-
port of art endeavors in the
city, was passed this week by
the Detroit Common Council.
Fleischman is a member of
the cultural advisory committee
s of the U.S Information Agency,
the board of trustees of the
Detroit Institute of Arts Found-
ers Society, chairman of the
Institute's research library,
treasurer of the Institute's Ar-
chives of American Art, treas-
urer of the Detroit Society of
Arts and Crafts and a donor
of many valuable art objects
to the Institute.
