Gen. Marshall

mittees for Israel Bonds. A co-
sponsor is the Mt. Clemens Bnai
Brith.
Gen. Marshall's recent series
of articles on Israel and its mili-
tary campaign in the Sinai
Peninsula have provided new
insight into Israel's position as
an important pro-Western. Medi-
terranean country.
He began his army career as
a private in 1917 and rose to
his present rank after serving
in World Wars I and II and
the Korean conflict. He is chair-
man of the Michigan Military
Commission and a member of
the Special Operations Commis-
sion of the U. S. Department of
Defense.
Appearing with Gen. Marshall
will be Phil Lind, versatile sing-
er and entertainer of stage,
screen, radio and television.
Dinner committee chairman
Arthur Feldman urged all mem-
bers of the three communities
to join in the anniversary fes-
tivities and "honor the occasion
with even larger sales and pur-
chases of Israel Bonds."

NEW YORK, (JTA) — The
Soviet Ministry of Culture came
out in its official organ "Sovets-
kaya Kultura" with a warning to
Jews in the Soviet Union against
thinking of emigration to Israel,
the New York Times reported
from Moscow.
If said that the article was
"the longest and strongest" at-
tack against Israel to appear in
the official organ in the past six
months.
The Soviet newspaper said
that Zionists around the world
whose chauvinistic prejudices
are only one step from Nazism"
were "seeking by lies and adven-
tures to ensnare those who can
still be deceived" into going to
Israel.
Sovetskaya Kultura asserted
the establishment of the State
of Israel was a result of the
"deception" of millions of per-
sons urged to leave their native
countries. For the sake of "a
handful of Zionist overlords"
the world was forced to divide
the land in the Middle East, the
article asserted.

UNRWA Chief Cancels
Planned Visit to Israel

JERUSALEM, (JTA)—Henry
Labouisse, director general of
the United Nations Relief and
Works Agency for Palestine
Arab Refugees, who was sched-
uled last week to pay his first
visit to Israel since his appoint-
ment to the post five years ago,
suddenly cancelled his trip. It is
suspected here that Labouisse's
reversal was occasioned by con-
cern over Arab reaction.
