Circle City, a retirement com-
munity to be erected on a 240-
acre tract in southern Arizona,
is now being built for retired
members of the Workmen's
Circle, Jewish fraternal and cul-
tural organization.
The idea was originated by
Ben Schleifer, a 57-year-old Rus-
sian-Jewish immigrant, now a
Phoenix developer, whose orig-
inal retirement city, Youngtown,
has received national acclaim.
Although Circle City is being
built for Circle members pri-
marily, it will be open to people
of all faiths and races. ' About
1,000 homes will be built. Cost-
ing about $7,200, the homes will
have two bedrooms and a bath.
Circle City named that be-
cause of its connection with the
Workmen's Circle but also be-
cause it is being laid out in a
huge circle, will have at its hub
such communal facilities as a
library, clubhouse, health club,
hobby shops and a swimming
pool. Streets will be named for
great Jewish leaders.
Inquiries about homes in the
planned city may be addressed
to the Workmen's Circle, 175
E. Broadway, New York, or to
Ben Schleifer, 301 E. Camel-
back Rd., Phoenix, Ariz.
