Only Joyous Events Before Passover
final David, Hebrew Academy Celebrate Tran, sition,
By the Oak-Woodser
Traditionally, the two-week
-period preceding Passover is
an occasion for celebration. And
so it is that the Orthodox Jew-
ish community has chosen this
time to observe two simchas.
Last Sunday, in lavish cere-
monies which saw - a string of
cars about a mile and a half
long, led by a police escort and
with a soundtruck blaring
liturgical and folk music, Cong.
Bnai David moved its Sifrei
Torah to its new synagogue in
Southfield Township.
This Sunday will see a dif-
ferent kind of dedication, when
the Suburban Hebrew Academy,
a branch of the Yeshivath Beth
Yehudah, formally names its
new building for Peter and
Pauline Goldstein.
The first event is symbolic
of the majesty of the Torah
in Jewish life, its movement
to a new location being a
joyous occasion, one which is
compared to the honor re-
-- galed upon visiting kings and
queens and surrounded with
nearly as much pomp and
circumstance.
The dedication of the Gold-
stein Bldg. more subtly is a re-
dedication of the children of
the Torah to further study.
These ceremonies will begin
at 1 p.m., in the Oak Park
branch, at 13855 W. 9 Mile Rd.,
The Suburban
Community
and will include not only the
naming of the building, but
dedication of the Rubin Kaplan
Memorial Room, the Pearl Rot-
tenberg Memorial Room, the
David M. Edelman Room and
the Sarah Reisman Sanctuary.
According to Morris Greenes,
of the Yeshivah, participants
in the ceremonies will be Mayor
Richard W. Marshall, of Oak
Park, Rabbi S. P. Wohlgelern-
ter, vice-president of the Yeshi-
vah, and Rabbi Joseph Elias,
its dean.
Following the dedication, Pe-
ter Goldstein will speak briefly
on the significance of the oc-
casion. Also to extend greetings
will be Rabbis Leizer Levin,
Yaakov I. Homnick and Leo Y.
Goldman.
A large attendance is antici-
pated, especially in view of the
fact that members of several
organizations to which Gold-
stein belongs will be repre-
sented. These include Louis
Marshall Lodge of Bnai Brith,
the Hebrew Benevolent Society,
Bereznitzer Aid Society a n d
Pinsker Progressive Aid Society.
At the Bnai David ceremony
last weekend, over 600 people
were in attendance, many of
them interested observers who
came from many communities
in the Greater Detroit area.
