Adas Shalom Concert to Honor Statehood

Rabbi Samuel H. Prero, spiri-
tual leader of Young Israel of
Detroit and a vice-president of
the Council of Orthodox Rabbis,
has been named a program
chairman for the Council-Mer-
kaz annual dinner, to be held
Wednesday evening, at Holiday
Manor.
Rabbi David Lifshitz, of the
Yeshiva University faculty in
New York, will be the eve-
nings' guest speaker.
The 26-voice youth choir of
the Beth Yehudah Schools will
present an

the occasion
by Rabbi Solo-
mon Hochler,
who will di-
rect the choir.

a.m., Sunday, over the Altman
Jewish Hour and David J. Co-
hen, president of the Merkaz,
will speak at 12:30 p.m., Sun-
day over the Weinberg Hour,
on behalf of the dinner com-
mittee. Boht progranis are on
radio station WJLB.

Flint Synagogues Set
Educational Series

Two Flint congregations—
Beth El and Beth Israel—have
inaugurated a five-week "Pro-
gram of Jewish Learning," to
be conducted on successive
Wednesdays through March 26.
The study course was started
this Wednesday.
Four courses will be taught
during the 8:30 to 9:25 p.m.
first period. They are "The
First Step," beginner's Hebrew
taught by Sidney Mendelsohn;
"Brushing Up on Your Yid-
dish," taught by Max Dunetz,
"The Best of Jewish Music,"
with Dr. Bernard Dickstein
teaching; and "Jews and Their
Encounter with the West,"
taught by Rabbis Philip Kieval
and William Sajowitz.
The second session with con-
sist of a series of lectures. de-
livered alternately by the two
rabbis on the general subject,
"Where -Judaism Differed,"
based on Rabbi Abba Hillel
Silver's book of the same name.
Assisting Rabbi Kieval, of
Beth Israel, and Rabbi Sajowitz,
of Beth El, are the following
members of the adult learning
committee: Max Dunetz, Ben-
Zion Gotlib, Hyman Loikrec,
Sidney Mendelsohn, Elliot
Price, Dr. Bernard Dickstein
and Mesdames Joseph Bean,
Fred Berger, Ben Epstein, Sam

German Court Decides Gemiluth Chassodim
on Romanian Payment to Install Officers

FRANKFURT (JTA) — The
Baden-Wuerttemberg Compen-
sation Court will rule March
19 on whether the Nazi regime
was responsible for the per-
secution of Jews in Romania
for which the survivors have
filed claims for compensation.
An initial claim against the
Baden Wuerttemburg province
was dismissed in June, 1957,
although it was generally
known that Nazis had a de-
cisive role in the anti-Jewish
measures instituted in Romania
during World War IL
In the hearing before the
compensation court in Stutt-
gart, detailed documentary ma-
terial was presented, particu-
larly German Foreign Office
reports listing details of Nazi
instigation of Romanian anti-
Semitic movements as well as
the special role of German
authorities among Romanian
offici als.
A number of survivors testi-
fied that on July 7, 1941, Ger-
S.S. units pillaged and burned
one of Romania's greatest
Jewish communities, Czerno-
witz. The widow of Chief Rabbi
Marks recalled . how her hus-
band and other Jewish com-
munity leaders were held
prisoner by the German police
and how they; together with
another 160 victims, were shot.

ke will be the main speaker and
installing officer.

the Semitics department at
Wayne State University, an-
nounced this week that 22
Christian ministers last week
enrolled in his extension course
in Biblical Hebrew and several
more are expected to enroll
this week.
After every session, Dr. Spiro
and the Christian ministers
continue their discussions at

interesting group of students.
