WASHINGTON—U. S. policy
in the Middle East, including
relations with Israel and Arab
states, is expected to be exam-
ined in a high level review of
foreign policy, as voted unani-
mously Tuesday by the Senate
Foreign Relations Committee.
The committee approved a
resolution by Sen. Wayne
Morse, Oregon Democrat, for
Chairman Theodore F. Green,
Rhode Island Democrat, to
name a four-member subcom-
mittee to work out policies and
procedures. The full committee
retains veto power over sub-
committee recommendations.
The review will take place
in the coming months.
Meanwhile plans were an-
nounced here for overall review
and evaluation of U. S. foreign
and defense policies, including
Middle Eastern aspects by the
advisory committee on foreign
policy of the Democratic Party
Advisory Council.
The advisory body under the
chairmanship of Former Secre-
tary of State Dean Acheson will
meet here Jan. 20 for foreign
policy deliberations.
Among members of the Dem-
ocratic Advisory Committee on
Foreign Policy are President
Irving M. Engel of the Ameri-
can -Jewish Committee; Ben-
jamin V. Cohen, former U. S.
Delegate to the U. N.; Abraham
Feinberg, New York business
executive; former Senator Her-
bert H. Lehman and S. Ralph
Lazrus, chairman of the board
of Benrus Watch company, New
York.
A foreign policy committee
will discuss and prepare posi-
tion papers and recommended
drafts of policy statements for
consideration by the Demo-
cratic advisory council in Feb-
ruary.

aid needy families in Israel.
The director of the local Miz-
rachi, Zvi Tomkiewicz, stated
that his office has a list of hun-
dreds of 'reedy families in Israel
to whom such packages will be
sent through CARE at a cost
of $12 each, containing approxi-
mately 20 pounds of meats.

vital foods, all strictly kosher
for Passover.
As last year, Detroiters are
urged to participate in this ef-
fort by contacting the Mizrachi

Michigan and local organiza-
tions and congregations are
asked to take part in this en-
deavor immediately, in order
that the packages can reach the
needy families on time.
As a public service, the Miz-
rachi offices are sending to
relatives and friends of De-
troiers, the Passover packages;
also CARE's year-round Israel
packages, the $10 kosher and
$18.25 kosher family packages.

JERUSALEM—United States
Ambassador Edward B. Lawson
conferred Tuesday with Foreign
Minister Golda Meir and
Finance Minister Levi Eshkol
on economic aspects of Israel-
American relations.
It was understood that the
subject of discussion was the
long delay in Washington on
Israel's request for a $75,000,-
000 loan from the U.S. Export-
Import Bank.
The Israel Cabinet Tuesday
resumed discussion of the pro-
posed 1958-1959 budget which
was not completed at the
Sunday session.
Finance Minister Levi Esh-
kol estimated that the com-
bined regular and development
budgets for the next fiscal
year would come to 1,160,000,-
000 pounds. Last year the
budget was set at 969,000,000
pounds, but two deficiency ap-
propriations raised it another
158,000,000 pounds.
SALISBURY, Southern Rho-
desia—Abraham E. Abraham-
son, 36-year-old president of
the Jewish Board of Deputies
of Southern Rhodesia and a
member of the local Zionist
Executive since its inception,
was named a member of the
Cabinet Tuesday. Abrahamson
will serve as Minister of the
Treasury. Born in Bulawayo,
S.R., Abrahamson has headed
numerous government commis
sions and is president of the
local Clothing - Industry Fed-
eration.

TEL AVIV (JTA) — Con-
tinued heavy rainstorms last
weekend damaged homes in the
new Lachish development area
and cut off the town of Ashdod
on the Mediterranean coast for
the second time in several
months. Some families were
evacuated in the Lachish area.
