Dr. Leon Fram will address
a meeting of all Landsman-
shaften Thursday, Jan. 30, 8:30
p.m., at the Beth Joseph Syna-
gogue, 18450 Wyoming.
Cantor Reuven Frankel also
will be the guest of Landsman-
shaften that evening. Members
of the societies and their friends
have been invited.
The program, arranged by
the committee for Landsman-
shaften for Jewish National
Fund, will be dedicated to the
tenth anniversary of Israel, and
will be one of a series of events
to take place during the Month
of Shevat (Jan. 22 to Feb. 20),
which has been designated as
JNF Month in Michigan.
The purpose of the meeting,
according to Harry Rosenthal,
secretary of the committee, is
to focus the attention of an im-
portant segment of the com-
munity on the vital role of the
Jewish National Fund in Israel.
The Landsmanshaften of De-
troit three years ago undertook
to perpetuate the names of De-
troit Societies by planting a
forest of 30,000 trees. The com-
mittee hopes to complete this
project during this tenth year of
Israel's independence. During
JNF Month, every society is
asked to plan a special meeting
to promote activities in behalf
of the JNF.

VANCOUVER, B. C., (JTA)
—Aiming at anti-Semitism with-
in his own party, Noel Murphy,
president of the British Colum-
bia Social Credit League, an-
nounced he will place before
the next annual meeting of the
League a constitutional amend-
ment barring racial or religious
bigotry.
The step is believed to have
been motivated by an incident --
at the League's recent provin-
cial election when one speaker
delivered a sharply-worded an-
ti-Semitic address.
The delegate denounced "Zi-
onism," which he said was re-
sponsible for all the present po-
litical ills in the world. Not
one delegate at the convention
took exception to the speech.
Later, however, the statement

the party's leader at the Domin-
ion Parliament in Ottawa, by
Premier W. A. C. Bennett of
British Columbia and Premier
E. C. Manning of Alberta.
Murphy's plan for a consti-
tutional amendment barring big-
otry is believed to have as its
goal the clarification of the
League's official stand against
racial or religious prejudice.
