Furniture Dealer,
Sbmuel Ram', Dies

Set Memorial Meeting
for Rabbi Leo Baeck

Samuel Raimi, proprietor of a
chain of four furniture and ap-
pliance stores, died Nov. 16.
Mr. Raimi, who lived at 3797
Buena Vista, was extremely ac-
tive in a number of philan-
thropic projects in the com-
munity and was a member of
the Zionist Organization of
Detroit.
He leaves his wife, Rose;
three sons, Edward, Irving and
Leonard; two daughters, Mrs.
Maxwell Elgot and Mrs. Mor-
ris D. Kane; 16 grandchildren
and four great grandchildren.

A memorial meeting com-
memorating the first annivers-
ary of the death of Rabbi. Leo
Baeck, the last important rabbi
in Germany, will be sponsored
by Cong. Gemiluth Chassodim
at 8 p.m., Dec. 1, In the Davi-
son Jewish Center.
Rabbi Joel J. Litke, spiritual
leader of the synagogue, is in
charge of the program, at
which Dr. Max Grunewald, of
Cong. Bnai Israel, Millburn,
N. J., will be guest speaker.
Rabbi Baeck, the president
of the Rabbinical Assembly of
Germany, survived imprison-
ment in the Theriesenstadt con-
centration camp, where he was
an inspiration to Jews interned
there. At the conclusion of the
war, he made a tour of this
country. _
Dr. Grunewald was a col-
league of the noted Rabbi
Baeck. He served in Mannheim.
Germany, before corning to his
present post.

French, British Veterans
Honor Jewish War Dead

gent of French Jewish veterans
joined thousands of British
Jewish ex-servicemen and
women in the annual Jewish
Remembrance Parade here. Sir
John Slessor, Marshal of the
Royal Air Force, reviewed the
parade on the Horse Guard
Parade Ground.

Gerard Swope Dies;
Technion Supporter

Gerard Swope, famous elec-
trical engineer. former presi-
dent of General Electric Corp..
died Wednesday in his New
York home at the age of 84.
He had won many national
honors. After 18 years as GE
president, he became the cor-
poration's honorary president.
Swope was deeply interested
in the work of the Israel Tech-
nion and last year attended a
board meeting of the famous
school held on its campus in
Haifa. He had made large con-
tributions to the Technion. He
also was interested in the work
of the Jewish Telegraphic
Agency.

died Tuesday. Funeral services
were held at Kaufman Chapel
Thursday.
Surviving are her husband,
Jesse; sons, Ronald and Don-
ald; parents, Mr. and Mrs. Hy-
man Baker, and a brother, Er-
win Baker.
Mrs. Rice also was active in
Adas Shalom Sisterhood and
was a Sinai Hospital volunteer.
