Ata Strike Leaves
2 Issues Unsettled
-
Direct JTA Teletype Wire
to The Jewish News
TEL AVIV
Two issues be-
tween workers and management
of the ATA Textile Plant, which
led to Israel's longest and cost-
liest strike earlier this year,
still have not yet been settled,
the executive committee of His-
tadrut was told Tuesday.
The three-month strike in
Israel's biggest textile company
was settled through the per-
sonal intervention of Prime
Minister Ben ;Gurion.
Y. Meshel, trade union dele-
gate to the ATA joint Manage-
ment labor committee, reported
to Histadrut that the company
had paid workers back pay,
"goodwill" bonus and a four
percent wage increase in ac-
cordance with. the strike set-
tlement agreement. He reported
that the Israel Treasury had
agreed to claim less income tax
from the workers for the strike
period.
He said that both sides ex-
pected an early agreement on
productivity councils but the
disputed- pension issue might
require intervention by . an
arbitrator.
