The Sixth Annual Synagogue
Adult Institute, sponsored by the
five Conservative synagogues of
Detroit, will open at 8:30 p.m.,
Oct. -22, at the Beth Aaron Syna-
gogue, 18000 Wyoming, near
Curtis, and will continue weekly
sessions for twenty weeks, it was
announced by Rabbi Moses Lehr-
man, chairman of the 1957-58'
Institute.
A wide array of courses cover-
ing Biblical studies, Talmud, and
history will be presented, as well
as a graded series of classes in
Hebrew reading, writing, conver-
sation, and literature.
Among the courses are "Pro-
files of the Prophets," an analysis
of their • contributions to 'Jewish
history and religious thought, to
be given by Rabbi Milton Arm.
Rabbi Moses Lehrman will con-
duct "Guideposts in the Talmud
for the Modern Jew," a : course
designed to relate Talmudic
learning to the problems of con-
temporary living.
"Moments of Prayer in Per-
sonal Life," to be given by Rabbi
Jacob E. Segal, will examine the
significance of selected Jewish
prayers and their relationship to
significant moments in the life of
the Jew. "From Ghetto to State-
hood," a class conducted by Rabbi
Benjamin Gorrelick, will examine
the dramatic -story. in modern-
world Jewish history from -the
Emancipation to the. rebirth of
Israel.
Rabbi Jacob Chinitz will con-
duct a - course on "Distinctive

Features of Judaism," oriented to
an examination of the distinctive
Jewish doctrines and their rele-
vance to the world of today. "Re-
ligions of the World,". a course
by Rabbi Morris Adler, will ex-
amine various religions of the
world of today and evaluate their
fundamental affirmations.
The Institute faculty includes
Mrs. Harold, J. Goodman, Joseph
Haggai, and Alex Roberg. There
will be periodic informal socials
arranged for both students and
faculty, where programs will be
presented and refreshments will
be served by Sisterhoods of the
participating Congregations. Mrs.
Alex Kohner is social chairman.
Both members and non-mem-
hers of the Conservative syna-
gogues are invited to register for
the courses: Application may be
made at the office of any of the
following synagogues: Adas Sha-
lom, Ahavas Achim, Beth Aaron,
B'nai Moshe, and Shaarey Zedek.
