The South's "fierce resistance"
to desegregation was charged
here this week with posing a
threat to American civil liber-
ties, with undermining "the
right of free men to freedom of
association and freedom of ex-
pression."
Alexander F. Miller, national
community service director of
the Anti-Defamation League of
Bnai Brith, told the 47th an-
nual conference of the National
Urban League that "the angry,
self - appointed guardians of
white supremacy" are using a
large arsenal of weapons to
maintain segregation.
