Outlined at the meeting, the
first of the year, will be plans

A course in basic sculpture
has been added to the adult
program at the 10 Mile Branch
of the Jewish Community Cen-
ter, 15110 W. 10 Mile, Oak
Park.
Jay Holland, a sculptor who
studied at Arts and Crafts and
Cranbrook and has many works
in private collections, is the in-
structor. He will teach execu-
tion of heads and figures in
terra cotta and firing of them.

Ralph B. Fortney has been
appointed as the architect for
the proposed sanctuary to be
erected by Cong. Bnai Moshe on
10 Mile Rd. and Kenosha, in
Oak Park.
The announcement was made
by Harry Gunsberg, who re-
cently succeeded Benjamin
Weiss as president of the con-
gregation.
Fortney, who is noted for his
snyagogue designs, is the archi-
tect of the sanctuaries of both
Adas Shalom Synagogue and
Cong. Ahavas Achim.
The congregation's suburban
High Holiday services will be
held in the Oak Park High -
School auditorium this year.
Rabbi Seymour Fox of New
York and Cantor Moshe Pur-
jes, formerly of Israel, will
conduct services.
Since the number of tickets
to non-members is limited,
everyone planning to attend
services should make their
reservations as early as pos-
sible, according to Eliot Ras-
kin, suburban ticket chairman.

Temple Emanu-El Lists
Rosh Hashanah Services
Temple Emanu-El will hold
Rosh Hashanah services in its
completed sanctuary at 14450
W. 10 Mile Rd., at 8:15 p.m.,
Wednesday, and at 10 a.m.,
Thursday.
Services will be conducted,
and the sermons delivered, by
Rabbi Milton Rosenbaum, with
musical assistance by the
Temple Choir. Children's and
Youth Group services will be
held at 2 p.m., Thursday.

A meeting of the newly-or-
ganized Oak Park Post of the
Jewish War Veterans is planned
for 9 p.m., Tuesday, at the Clin-
ton School.
According to Ben Edelstein,

group's charter.

Temple Emanu-El to Dedicate Synagogue
at Services, Open House This Weekend
Religious services and a com-
munity house are planned this
weekend by Temple Emantr-El,
the Suburban Temple, to dedi-
cate its completed building. at
14450 W. 10 Mile, Oak Park.
Services of worship, desig-
nated officially as the Dedica-
tion Sabbath Service, will be
held at. 8:15 p.m., today. Rabbi
Jacob L. Weinstein, of Chicago's
K.A.M. Temple, will deliver the
dedicatory sermon.
The service will begin with
a processional, in which corn-
munal dignitaries, congregation-
al officers and religious leaders
will participate.
Taking part in the service
will be Dr. Leon Fram, of Tem-
ple Israel, Dr. Richard C. Hertz,
of Temple Beth El; Mrs. Sidney
Katzman, Bertram Kaatz, Ber-
nard Lieberman, Bernard Mey-
er, Benjamin Goldstein, past
president; Theodore D. Birn-
krant, president; and Walter
Schmier.

Cantor at Young Israel
High Holiday Services

Young Israel of Detroit, will
officiate at High Holy Day
services, together with Rabbi
Yaakov I. Homnick.
Cantor Greenbaum, a native
Detroiter, has been a member
of the teaching staff of the
congregation for the past three
years. Morris Novetsky, vice-
president of the congregation,
will serve as associate cantor
during the Holy Days.
- As a prelude to the holidays,
an institute will be sponsored
by the Sisterhood and Men's
Club at 1.0 p.m., Saturday, prior
to 12 midnight Selichot services.
Sabbath services this week-
end will be held at 6:15 p.m.
today, and at 9 am., Saturday.
Rabbi Homnick will officiate
and preach the sermon.

memorial service.
The community dedication
celebration will be head at 3

of Oak Park's Cong. Beth Sha-
lom; Dr. Paul Durham, of First
Methodist Church; Dr. Jesse R.
DeWitt, of Faith Methodist
Church; Rabbi Yaakov I. Horn-
nick, Young Israel Center of
Oak-Woods; and Louis Rosenz-
weig, representing the South
Oakland County committee of
the Jewish Community Council.
The Emanu-El Junior Choir
will provide musical interludes,
and Rabbi Rosenbaum will de-
liver the dedication prayer.
Receptions will follow both
the service and community dedi-
cation program. The public is
invited to join with members of
the congregation in the dedica-
tion events.
