was in Detroit this week and
spoke enthusiastically about the
progress being made in, the
Jewish state's radio industry. j
If his trip were delayed three
years, however, he probably
would be speaking of , the infant
television network just insti-
tuted in Israel. •
TV for Israel is that close,
according to Petrushka, who
said that blueprints are current-
ly being prepared to introduce
nation-wide television to Israeli
audiences, via Kol Israel.
Petrushka said that FM (fre-
quency modulation) would be
introduced next year and tele-
vision should be established by
1960.
Here as part of the Inter-
national Educational Ex-
change Program conducted by
the Department of State, Pet-
rushka is one of 30 specialists

king part in the International
Seminar on Radio and TV at
the University of Boston.
After one-month of - book
study," Petrushka and his fel-
low delegates are on a tour of •
the country to learn various
techniques employed by radio
and TV networks. The seminar
will conclude with a study of
Hollywood network studios, a
visit to Washington and an eval
uation period in Boston.
Petrushka said he greatly
admired American techniques in

that predominate American ra-
dio.
In Israel, since .fees are col-
lected for radio licenses (all
owners must have one), there
is no commercialism except
during the early morning hours
when a few sponsors take the
airways.
About 60 percent of the Is-
raeli radio time is taken up by
music, he said. Roughly, it is
broken down into 40 percent
serious music and 60 percent
folk songs and light music.
The station has its own 40-
piece symphony which pre-
sents a concert once a week
and also participates in cham-
ber recitals. There also is a
weekly concert by the Israel
Pharmonic Orchestra.

Return from JNHAC's
50th Anniversary Event

Two Detroit women recently
returned from attending a four-
day convention of the Jewish
National Home for Asthmatic
Children at Denver, celebrating
the Home's 50th anniversary.
They are Mrs. James Golden,
president of the Detroit Junior
League Chapter, and Mrs. Irv-
ing Medow, vice-president of
Northwest Chapter.
The Home, which operates on
a free, nation-wide, non-sec-
tarian basis, was organized 50
years ago as the Children's1
Asthma Research Institute and
Hospital, now an affiliate of
JNHAC.
Children afflicted with
chronic intractable asthma gen-
erally stay two years for treat-1
ment at the Home.

Take time to play—it is the
secret of perpetual youth.
