away at the age of 103 in 1953,
entered the Home for Aged 20
years ago, and lived to cele-
brate their 75th anniversary
together at the Home.
Despite her passing and
blindness caused by cataracts,
which overtook him in the last
five years, Mr. Nagel remained
cheerful and alert until the
last few hours of his life.
He was a favorite among the
doctors and staff of the Home,
and brought a great deal of
cheer to his fellow residents,
with wham he always ex-
changed good-natured banter.
Mr. Nagel was a deeply re-
ligious man, and attended the
Home's synagogue regularly.
He even conducted the serv-
ices, until a few months ago,
whenever he went to say
Yahrzeit.
According to Ira Sonnenblick,
executive director of the Home,
Mr. Nagel provided the perfect
example that advancing age
does not mean the loan of a
person's senses. Mr. Nagel's
thinking was clear until the
very end, Sonnenblick said.
From the point of view of
age, Mr. Nagel was the oldest
resident in the history of the
Home, although some residents
have outlasted him as far as
residence is concerned.
He is survived by a son,
Hyman; • two daughters, Mrs.
Ben Zolzman, of Los Angeles,
Calif., and Mrs. Max Prince;
18 grandchildren, 22 great
grandchildren and three great
great grandchildren.
-In an interview only a few
years ago, Mr. Nagel told re-
porters that he would have had
a good many more grandchil-
dren and great grandchildren
if only his family hadn't been
so lazy.
