M. Sperling, 41ffarjorie's' Producer, Has Wide- Film, Jewish Background

HOLLYWOOD—Milton Sper-
ling, producer of "Marjorie
Morningstar," cinema adapta-
tion of Herman Wouk's best-
selling novel, is a veteran film
maker in spite of his youthful
appearance.
Sperling entered the industry
in his teens and learned all
phases of screen craftsmanship
since.. He has been active as
writer as well as in the field
of production.
In 1956 he received an

Academy Award nomination
for the best original story and
screenplay for "The Court
Martial of Billy Mitchell."
Born in New York City,
July 6, 1912, the son of
Bessie Diamond and Chairles
Sperling, Milton got his
start while attending high
school where, as editor of the
school newspaper, he inter-
viewed playwright Donald
Ogden Stewart, who then
was writing scenarios at the
Paramount Studio in Astoria,
Long Island.
