Israel Wins Place on
ILO Governing Body;
Competed With Egypt
GENEVA (JTA) — Israel
scored a noteworthy success at
the current Ifiternational Labor
Organization meeting when
Aaron Becker, head of the His-
tadrut's trade union depart-
ment and an Israel delegate to
the ILO, was elected to the or-
ganization's governing b o d y,
nosing out an Egyptian candi-
date. In a record ballot in which
66 delegations participated, the
Israeli representatives received
44 votes. The election aroused
considerable interest in ILO
circles.
The Coordinating Board of
Jewish Organizations — which
represents the Board of Depu-
ties of British Jews, South Afri-
can Jewish Board of Deputies
and Bnai Brith—was included
in a list of special non-govern-
mental organizations accredited
to the ILO. The list was. estab-
lished last year at the request
of non-governmental groups in-
terested in some aspect of ILO
work. The Coordinating Board
requested inclusion on the list
because of its concern with such
problems as discrimination in
employment, human rights and
the status of migrants, all of
which figure frequently on ILO
agendas.
