Early Construction Announced for June 20 Israel Bond Testimonial Dinner

In his presidential report to
the 24th annual meeting of the
Jewish Center, May 212, read for
him in his absence by George
D. Keil, .vice-president, Jacob
L. Keidan outlined plans for the
construction of the new Center
on Curtis and Meyers. He an-
nounced that architectural . plans
are expected to be done in
July, with construction to begin
soon after bids are ,returned
early in September.
Mrs. Sidney J. Karbel pre-
sented the slate of nominees to
the board of directors. Elected
for a three-year term were
Herman Fishman, Judge Victor
j. Baum, Jack 0. Lefton, Mrs.
Benjamin Jones, Mrs. Samuel
S. Aaron, Mrs. Harry L. Jack-
son, Charles H. Gershenson,
Leslie R. Schmier Harry B.
Aronow, Mrs. Harry E. August,
Edward Fleischman, Mrs. Ben-
jamin E. Jaffe, Mrs. Victor
Shiffman, Richard Sloan - and
Sidney J. Winer.
Sidney J. Bertin was elected
for a. two-year term to fill a'
vacancy.
• Certificates of award were
presented iby Abraham Kasten-
baum, assistant director, to
volunteers who gave more than
50 hours of service at the Cen-
ter during 1966-57. Honored

Turkey Halts Tours
by Ships to Israel

ISTANBUL. — The Turkish
authorities acted to prohibit
tours to Israel arranged by
shipping -lines in order to pre-
vent Turkish Jews from migrat-
ing to. Israel without securing
official permission.
As a result of this ban, a
