Bonds Help Expand Elath Seaport
This is the town of Elath, situated on the Gulf of Aqaba,
at the southernmost tip of the Negev, as viewed from the top
deck of an Israeli ship docked at one of the seaport's wharfs.
Israel, with the assistance of investment capital derived from
the sale of State of Israel Bonds, plans to make Elath a center
for trade with the countries of East Africa and the Far East.
Preparations are now under way to utilize Bond funds for the
construction of a new pier which will accommodate freighters
up to 10,000 tons of loading capacity, and large oil tankers,
from which oil will be pumped directly into a 144-inile oil
pipeline from Elath to Beersheba, the southern terminus of
Israel's railroad system. N The pipeline project is also supported
with Israel Bond funds.
