Temple Israel Young Marrieds' Year JHSS Institute

Working out final
plans for the Catt-
dlelight Ball, a din-
ner-dance that will
climax the season
for the Young Mar-
rieds Group of Tem-
ple Israel, are the
cochairmen of the
event, left to right,
Mrs. Irving Rosen-
berg, Mrs. Stanley
Millman, Mr. Rosen-
berg and Mr. Mill-
man. The program
will begin with a
cocktail hour at 6:30
p.m., May 18, in the
temple's Leon Fram
Hall. Dancing will be to the music of Russ Weaver's orchestra.
Comedian Sammy Shore will entertain. For reservations, call
Mrs. Sidney Kirman, DI. 1-3024.

Symphony in Pleasing Concert

The Center Symphony Orch-
estra delivered another pleas-
ing performance at its fifth con-
cert of the season, Tuesday
night, in the Hyman C. Broder
auditorium.
The major work presented by
the orchestra, Julius Chajes con-
_ ducting, was the Beethoven
Symphony No. 2, rendered in
admirable manner. In addition
to the 'uplifting harmonies and
caressing passage s, Chajes
brought out the particular pulse
so evident in the composer's
symphonies. The rendition, how-
- ever, would have been bettered
by a bit more sharpness of ex-
ecution by the orchestra.
The body presented Gluck's
Overture, "Iphegenia in Aulis"
with overall majesty.
During the latter half of the
concert, the string orchestra
performed the brief, but beau-
tiful plum, Air for G String,
by J. S. Bach, which was en-
hanced by the violin solo of
Edouard Kesner. .
Soloist for the Mozart Piano

Concerto in D Minor (K. 466)
was. Gizi Santo, prominent pian-
ist of the Detroit Conservatory
of Music. Miss Santo's feeling
for the composition was evi-
denced by her wonderful deli-
cacy in performance but she
might have conveyed more con-
trasts in mood and stress.

For the , work's third move-
ment she utilized the fitting
cadenza written by Chajes.

The masterful technique and
sweetness of her encore, Valse,
by the contemporary Alexander
Glazunov, culminated the savory
concert. —S.K•
