Minkoff-Cohen Rites
Planned for New York

activities in Society

Unique for two reasons is
this Ceil Chapmain original,
shown for the first time in
Detroit by Jacqueline Shops
of Detroit and Oak Park at a
fashion show given for the
greater Detroit Bnai Brith
Women's Council at Adas
Shalom Synagogue earlier
this week. The gown is made
of gold cloth, which was bur-
ied in France during World
War H to save it from the
Nazis. It was dug up in 1946,
and eventually brought to the
United States, where it vhs
designed into gold brocade
gowns by Miss Chapman. It
sells for $3,000.

Philosophy Association
to Hear Three Experts

Three prominent authorities
are scheduled to speak in the
Detroit Philisophical Society's
panel discussion on "Global
Anxiety, Power and People," at
8 p.m., today, room 211, in the
Belcrest Hotel.
In the discussion the prob- •
ability of universal extinction
of humanity will be appraised
by Brig. Gen. S. L. A. Marshall,
military analyst of the Detroit
News, Prof. H. Gomberg, physi-
cist associated with the Phoenix
Project at the University of
Michigan, and Dr. Ira Altshuler,
psycho-dynamics expert who is
a member of the society.
Prior to the meeting, mem-
bers and their guests will ga-
ther for a customary dinner
honoring the speakers.
The public is invited to at-
tend the panel discussion, which
is free of charge.

Hope-for-Juveniles Group
to Hold Donor Luncheon

Detroit Hope for Juveniles or-.
ganization will hold its fourth
annual donor luncheon at 12:30
p.m., April 9, in the Northland

Bnai Brith Ball
Ends Fund Drive

The seventh annual Bnai
Brith Ball will be held in the
Fountain Ballrobm of the Ma-
sonic Temple at 9 p.m., Satur-
day. The ball marks the
'successful culmination of the
annual fund-raising drive by
the Greater Detroit Bnai Brith
Council.
Funds are raised to supple-
ment funds supplied to Bnai
Brith agencies and philanthro-
pies by membership dues and
the Allied Jewish Campaign.
Among the activities sup-
ported through this annual
campaign are the Bnai Brith
Hillel Foundations, the Bnai
Brith Youth Organizations, the
Bnai Brith Vocational Service,
Bellefaire, Leo N. Levi Me-
morial Hospital, National Jew-
ish Hospital, Bnai Brith Center
at the Mayo Clinic, Israel pro-
jects, Henry Monsky Memorial
Foundation and the veterans'
program.
The Detroit Campaign is the
joint affair of the 24 Men's
Lodges in the city. Over-all
chairman of the drive is Louis
Weber. Vice - chairmen are
Morris Blechman, Sol Moss,
Sam Pearlman, Sidney Strauss
and Harry Weinberger.
Arrangements for the ball are
under the direction of Irving
Davis. Music' will be supplied
by Mickey Woolf and his or-
chestra. There is no admission
charge. Friends are invited.

Women Volunteers

Dr. Benjamin D. Welling,
chairman of the occupational
therapy and recreation commit-
tee of the Jewish Home for
Aged, announces that the
Home will hold its annual.
buffet supper and c o c kt a i 1
party on Sunday in honor of
the Volunteer Service Group
of the Women's Auxiliary.
The Service Group consisting
of over 100 women is the Wo-
men's Auxiliary's "life-line" to
residents of the. Jewish Home.
They assist in occupational
therapy and hobby slops as
well as the monthly birthday
parties, games, and beauty shop.
Mrs. Samuel Newman, presi-
dent of the Women's Auxiliary,
along with Mrs. George Bass
and Mrs. Bernard Aston, co-
chairmen of the Service Group,
will participate in honoring the
volunteers.
Gus D. Newman, president of
the Jewish Home for Aged, will
make- presentations of Certifi-
cates of Recognition to volun-
teers who have given out-
standing service during the past
year.

Basketball Loop
Schedules Dinner

The In tercon.gr egational Bas-
ketball League will culminate
its 11th season with its annual
banquet this Wednesday eve-
ning, at Young Israel of Detroit,
12521 Dexter.
The League is comprised of
10 congregations from the De-
troit area and one from Wind-
sor, Ont. Greetings to the mem-
bers of the teams, their coaches
and sponsors will be given at
the banquet by George Parzen,
League president.
Plaques will be awarded to
Young Israel, which finished
the regular season's play with
a 12-2 record to lead the South-
ern Division, and to Beth Abra-
ham, with a 13-0 record, which
topped the Northern Division.
The rotating plaque will be
awarded to Cong. Bnai David,
which survived three playoff
rounds to emerge as the league
champion. Individual trophies
will be given to members of
each of the teams.
In addition, the League will
present • special plaques to Ed
Hayes and George Maskin of
the Detroit Times and Dr.
Henry B e r r i s and Michael
Greene for their efforts in
bringing to Detroit the Israeli
Olympic basketball team.
A highlight of the banquet
will be the announcement of
the selection by League coaches
of the first annual All-Star 'se-
lections. Twelve boys will be
named to the team.

Yiddish Folks Farein is cele-
brating • its 45th anniversary
with a dinner-dance at 6 p.m.,
Sunday, at Rainbow Terrace.

Mr. and Mrs. Meyer Finkel, of 3325 Tyler, recently enter-
tained the Pirkis Family Club at a Purim party. The club is com-
posed-of the nieces and nephews of the Finkels.
Mr. and Mrs. Charles L. Levin, presently passengers aboard
the Caribbean cruiser Mauretania, will visit the Virgin Islands,
Jamaica, Nassau and Venezuela.
On Sunday, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Emil Edelson, 3850
West Outer Drive, the Pidyon Haben of Albert, son of Mr. and
Mrs. Morris Albert, was celebrated. In honor of the new born
baby, the sum of $73 was contributed by the guests to the Mo'os
Hitirn Organization of Detroit. Harry Cohen acted as Kohen.
In Detroit last weekend to attend the Bar Mitzvah of Walter
A. Winshall, son of Dr. and Mrs. Ted Winshall, were the follow-
ing 'ouot-of-town ,guests: Rebitzin Israel Goldin, of Rochester,
N.Y., Mr. and Mrs. William Joseph and daughter Ethelee, of
Belle Harbor, Queens, N.Y., Dr. arid Mrs. Herbert Morais, of
Long Island, N.Y.; Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Adler and children
Barbara and Warren, of Brookline; Mass., and Miss Feige Wein-
shel, of Chicago, Ill.
Mr. and Mrs., Jack H. Kirschner, of 18450 Wisconsin, have
recently returned from a three-week stay in Miami Beach, Fla.,
and Cuba.
