Glubb Sees Need for Full LUST
Division to Check Fedaveeii

(Direct 'TA : Teletype Wire to The Jewish News)
LONDON—There are not enough men in the

United
Nations Emergency Force to maintain peace along the
Israel-Egyptian frontier, according to Sir John Bagot
Glubb, former commander of bTrans-Jordan 's Arab
Legion.
Appearing Monday night on a BBC television pro-
gram, Sir John pointed out that there wire big distances
to cover and the UN forces "haven't got energetic orders
to get on with anything."
Col. Robert Henriques, author of a book on the Sinai
Campaign, who appeared with Glubb Pasha on the pro-
gram, agreed with the ex-commander of the desert force
that the UNEF could not control the border situation.
He said that nothing short of an entire division patrolling
the frontiers could stop fedayeen raids.

Romania Harasses Jews at
Israel Legation in Bucharest

JERUSALEM, (JTA) — Newly arriving immigrants from
Romania report a new wave of persecution against Jews con-
tacting the Israel Legation in Bucharest. Any person seen
entering the legation for any purpose is arrested upon his
leaving and is exhaustively questioned and investigated. There-
after, he is usually released, the immigrants state. As a result
of the arrests, the Jews of Romania fear to approach the
Legation and it is thus effectively isolated from the Jewish
population.

A showdown on the explosive Israel border situation haS been postponed until
1. Foreign Minister Golda Meir reports to the Israel Cabinet this week-end on her
consultations with U. S. Secretary of State John Foster Dulles and UN Secretary Gen-
eral Dag Haminarskjold; and
' 2. After trial plying of boats _flying- the Israel flag through the Straits of Tiran
and the Suez Canal.
Mrs. Meir arrived in this country Sunday,. met with Dulles ancl:Hammarskjold on
Monday and returned home on Wednesday, apparently having failed to secure assur-
ances from either source that Israel's stand against the re-entry of Egyptian troops hi
the Gaza Strip will be upheld.
While a boat with Israel as its destination passed through the Gulf of Aqaba
without incidents on Monday, it was explained that it carried the Costa Rica flag and
therefore did not represent the . expected
challenge to Arab intransigence.
_
UN Secretary General. Hammarskjold, left for Cairo on Tuesday after meeting with.
several delegations interested in the Israel-Egyptian situation and with the seven-
nation advisory committee on the United Nations Emergency Force.
On a definition of U.S. policy, Mr. Dulles referred Mrs. Meir to the March 1 UN
address of Ambassador Henry. Cabot Lodge and _fire letter sent by President -Eisen
hover to Prime Minister Ben-Gurion on March 2. The United States was described as
"concerned" with current developments. It is in close touch with UN Secretary Gen-
eral Hammarskjold and other members of the United Nations.
Mr. Dulles said the United States stood by the hopes and expectations it had
expressed on the situation "which should prevail in the area with respect to the exer-
cise of the responsibility of the United Nations in Gaza, the free and innocent passage
of the Straits of Tiran by ships of all nations in accordance with international law
and the settlement of the Suez Canal problem in accordance with the six principles
adopted by the United Nations and accepted by Egypt." _
The Secretary held that the United States would continue using its influence to
avoid any situation which would negate efforts to settle the current dispute in
