Mr. Herman Schwartz, catering .manager of the Sheraton-
Cadillac Hotel, and Mrs. Schwartz are currently vacationing in
Miami Beach, Fla.
Rochelle Shiffman and Sybil Glynn have returned to 'De-
troit following their recent trip to New York, where they
visited with Marlene Spatt Blumberg, formerly of this city.
A surprise party honoring Mr. and Mrs. Sol L.. Penskar on
the occasion of their ninth wedding anniversary, was given re-
cently at the Penskar home on Huntington Rd.
Mr, and Mrs. •Morris Shatzen and daughter, .Sylvia, are now
residing . in their new home at 6626 Lindenhurst, Los Angeles,
Calif.
Mr. and Mrs.. Alfred W. Payson, of Cambridge Rd., returned
recently from a three-week holiday in Mexico.
Mr. Sam J. Willis, of this!tcity, has just -returned from New
York and Miami Beach, Fla., where he was -the house guest of
Cyrus Von 'Oustrand and Countess Von 'Oustrand. While • in
Miami, Mr. Willis attended the birthday dinner gives by State
of Israel Bonds for comedian Eddie Cantor.
Recent guests at Oakton Manor, on Lake Pewaukee, Wis.,
were the E. Ravets, George Blairs, Meyer Kleins and Mr. Howard
Blank, all of Oak Park, Mich„ and Mr. and MIS. Morrey Finke,
of Schaefer Rd., Detroit.
Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Zeldes, of Roselawn Ave., entertained 22
guests at dinner on March _2 in honor of their son, SP 3/c Elliott
A. Zeldes, who was honorably discharged on Feb. 27 from the
U. S. Army. -During his tour of duty, Zeldes served with the
signal battalion, spending nearly two years in Japan. He also
was entertained last Sunday at a dinner and open house at the
home of his brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Simon Zeldes.

Ruth Meckler Wins Grinnell Scholarship

Ruth Meckler, former pupil
of Mischa Kottler and now a
pupil of Rddolf Serkin at the
Curtis Institute of Music in
Philadelphia, won the $1,000
annual .Grinnell Foundation
scholarship award in recent au-
ditions at Michigan State Uni-
versity.
She will appear as guest solo-
ist with the Kalamazoo Sym-
phony Orchestia April 4th when
the State Convention of t h e
Michigan Federation of Music
Clubs convenes in Kalamazoo.
At that time she will be for-
mally presented with the award
by the Grinnell Foundation.

Meckler, 19, is a grad-
uate of Mumford High School.
She is the daughter of Mr. and
