Sunday School Teacher's Courses in
Midrasha Spring Semester Program

A training program for Sun-
day School teachers will be of-
fered for a second semester be-
ginning Feb. 10. The program,
called Leadership TeaChers
Training School, was launched
by Midrasha, the college of Jew-
ish studies, in autumn of 1956.

drasha extension program, be-
gan its second semester in Jan-
uary: The program offers be-
ginner's and advanced work in
the Hebrew language, interpre-
tation of the Sidur and Jewish
history.
The major contemporary
Hebrew writers are studied in
a course given at the Rose Sittig
Cohen branch, 10-11:30 a.m.,
Thursdays.
Midrasha extension, in con-
junction with the Jewish Cen-
ter, sponsors a book review sem-
inar which meets bi-monthly in
the Berman branch. Member-
ship is by invitation. The list of
books under discussion is avail-
able on request, according to
Mrs. Carl Schiller, seminar
chairman.

Courses to be offered on
Thursdays and Sundays are part
of a three-year curriculum in
the basics of Judaism.
The sessions, aided by Rabbis
Benjamin Gorrelick, Moses
Lehrman and Jacob E. Segal,
will be held at the Esther Ber-
man Branch of the United He-
brew Schools. Information on

Brig. Gen. S. L. A. Marshall
will address leaders and repre-
sentatives of Wayne County
veterans organizations at a
meeting sponsored by the Jew-
ish War Veterans at 8:30 p.m.,
Thursday, in the JWV Mem-
orial Home, 4095 W. Davison.
Recently back from the
Middle East, where he reported
his observations in The Detroit
News, Gen. Marshall will state
further impressions of the situa-
tion in that section of the world.
Invited guests will include
department and county com-
manders of all veterans groups
and delegates from the 23 na-
tional veterans organizations
comprising the Allied Veterans
Council of. Wayne . County.
Gen. Marshall, who was re-
cently cited by JWV for "vivid
and timely reporting" of the
Middle East problem, will re-
ceive an award from Lawrence
Gubow, JWV Department com-

Jews in Tokyo Area
Aid American Soldiers

Mark Davidson, Detroiter sta-
tioned with the army in Tokyo,
Japan, reports that Jewili cul-
tural activities are currently
sponsored for soldiers in the
area.
Provided by the Tokyo Jewish
Community Center, Jewish Wel-
fare Board and Jewish army
chaplain in Tokyo, a talk,
"Israel Today" was given by Is-
rael Minister J. I. Linton on
Jan. 20 at the Tokyo Jewish
Center. The talk was preceded
by brunch and a Tu B'Shvat
celebration.
Last Sunday Jewish military
personnel were given a tour of
Tokyo cultural centers. Regular
Friday evening services fol-
lowed by an oneg shabbat and
Saturday morning services are
held.
Davidson is serving as a can-
tor and assistant to Rabbi (Maj.)
Dicker, Tokyo area chaplain.

Mizrachi Initiates Passover CARE
Package. Drive to Aid Israel's Needy

funds for the sending of $12
CARE packages to aid needy
families in Israel.
Zvi Tomkiewicz, director of
local Mizrachi, stated that his
office has a list of hundreds of
needy families in Israel to
whom such packages will be
sent through CARE, at a cost of
$12 each, containing meats,
sugar, dried fruits and other
vital foods.
As last year, Detroiters are
urged to participate in this ef-
fort by sending their contribu-
tions to the local Mizrachi of-
fice, 12238 Dexter.

by Mizrachi as a public service.
In the previous $1 surplus
package campaign, Mr. Tom-
kiewicz reported, nearly $10,000
was contributed in voluntary
gifts by many hundreds of De-
troit Jews.
