Directors' Council's Conference
for Teachers Scheduled for Sunday
A panel discussion and sem-
inar sessions will highlight the
inar
annual Religious School Teach-
ers' Conference, which begins
with a luncheon session at 1:15
p.m., Sunday, at Beth Abraham
Synagogue.
The conference, sponsored by
the Directors' Council of the
Jewish Religious Schools of
Metropolitan Detroit, has as its
theme "Holidays and Prayers—
Contents and Teaching Meth-
ods."
Bernard Panush, chairman of
the Directors' Council will ex-
tend greetings at the luncheon
session. Rabbi Israel I. Halpern
will give the invocation, and
Cantor Reuven Frankel will
chant the Birkat Hamazon.
"Educational Objectives in the
Teaching of Holidays and Reli-
gious Practices" is the subject
of the panel discussion, for
which Leon Lucas, conference
chairman, will preside.
Discussants will be Rabbi
Milton Rosenbaum, of Temple
Emanu-El, speaking on "Holi-
days and Ceremonies" and Dr.
Max Kapustin, director of the
Wayne State University Hillel
Foundation, speaking on "The
Teaching of Mitzvot."
Two seminars will follak at
3 p.m. on "The Teaching of
Holidays and Ceremonies" and
"The Teaching of Prayers." Each
will be broken down into pri-
mary, intermediate and senior
grades.
Moderators will be Mrs. Ade-
line Loewenberg, Ahavas

Over 200 teachers in various
temple and synagogue schools
are expected to attend the ses-
sions, which are designed to im-
prove teaching methods and pro-
cedures.
In addition to the seminars,
there will be special displays
of modern textbooks and re-
cent novels, prepared by Janet
Olander, Shaarey Zedek li-
brarian; an audio-visual dis-
play by Dr. Norman. Drachler,
Temple Beth El; a sabbath
table display by Allen War-
sen of Adas Shalom; an arts
and crafts demonstration by
Mrs. Shirley Magden, Temple
Israel; and a report card digs-
play by Leon Lucas of Beth
Shalom.
The Directors' Council con-
sists of all directors of the Re-
form, Conservative and Ortho-
dox religious schools in the De-
troit area. They include:
