At the annual meeting of the
board of directors of the Jewish
House of Shelter, the following
officers were elected for the
year 1957:
Rabbi A. M. Hershman, hon-
orary president; Jerry Bielfield,
president; Henry M. Rottman,
Nathan Yaffa and Morris Dorn,
vice-presidents; David Goldberg,
treasurer; and Margaret Weiner,
secretary.
It was reported at the meet-
ing that the House of Shelter
has opened its home and re-
sources to a number of Hun-
garian refugees who have re-
cently come to this country in
search of freedom.
Because the present quarters
on Taylor have become out-
dated, plans are being made to
find new headquarters in the
northwest section of the city.
Facilities of the House of
Shelter are used by thousands of
people through the year, among
them men temporarily out of
work or transients in seek of
employment.

A FULL OCEANFRONT BLOCK-40th to 41st ST., MIAMI BEACH

DON BREWER, Herman's for-
mer roommate at Michigan, in
town in connection with his
job as regional supervisor for
R.C.A., recalled the time the
U. of M. 'baseball team was to
go on its southern tour . .
It was Passover, and Herman's
mother wouldn't let him go
. . • Ray Fisher, coach of the
team, finally persuaded her . . .
and she packed a tremendous
suitcase with chickens, sponge
cake, matzos, latkes . . . The
squad started south, and even-
tually everybody on the ball
club wound up eating out of the
suitcase • . .-- in several in-
stances bypassing their regular
meals since ballplaying super-
stition dictated that it might
break their winning streak . . .
That 19'36 team didn't lose a
ball game, and won the con-
ference championship . . . To
this day, it is considered the
best of Ray Fisher's 37 teams
since 1921 . . Detroiter Joe
Lerner of Lerner Plywood, was
the regular first baseman, and
Herman led the conference in
pitching with eight wins and
no losses . . His earned run
average of 0:89 stood as .Big
Ten record until broken in
1952 by Paul Giel of Minne-
sota.
MATT PATANELLI, former
U. of M. • football captain, now
end coach of Michigan, recalled
the basketball trip "M" made
to the coast to play . University
of Washington . . Herman
didn't eat meat out and every
meal saw him eating only fish
and eggs..
