Non-Delivery of Mail on Nov. 12 Affects
You: Early Thanksgiving Deadline
The attention of our readers is called to two vital deadlines this month. If copy
submitted to The Jewish News for publication is to be considered, you must observe
deadlines affected by two holidays.
Due to the observance of Nov. 12 as a Federal holiday, as the - postponed-from-
Sunday Armistice Day, there will be no delivery of mail that morning. Your copy for
our next issue must, therefore, either be delivered to our office by Monday morning
or must be left at the office through the mail slot_ over the week-end. Otherwise,
your copy will not be used. The advertising and classified deadlines are not affected.
On account of Thanksgiving—Nov. 22—there will be earlier closing of forms for
our issue of Nov. 23. The deadline for that issue will be at noon on Friday, Nov. 16,
for all editorial copy and photographs. The deadline for classified advertising for that
issue will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 20.

Berl Locker Here to Deliver Address
At Annual Concert of Histadrut
B e r 1 Locker, world-famots
Labor Zionist leader who is
presently on tour throughout
the United States, will be in De-
troit this weekend.
A member of - Israel's Knesset,
Locker will be featured speaker
at the annual Histadrut Con-
cert, to be held at 8:30 p.m.,
Sunday, in the auditorium of
Mumford High School.
Also on the program are Zvi
Scooler, artist of the Yiddish
and Broadway stage; Lea
Koven, Detroit soprano; and the
Ha'Machol Dance Group.
Locker, a member of the La-
bor Zionist movement since its
inception in 1905, has been a
leading figure in the movement
as an editor and spokesman in
Lwow, Poland (1911); Hague,
Hollany (1916); New York
(1928); London (193:1); and Tel
Aviv (1935).
In 1938, he returned to Lon-
don as political advisory of the
Jewish Agency, serving there
during World War II. He was
a member of the Agency's dele-
gation pleading Israel's case at
the United Nations prior to the
formation of the Jewish state.
Locker has served on the
World Zionist Executive for
nearly two decades, and during
the past few years had shared
the co-chairmanship of the
Jewish Agency with Dr. Nahum
Goldmann.
Following the concert, His-
tadrut drive workers will step
up their campaign locally. Dele-
gates to the annual Histadrut
convention in New York, Nov.
22 to 25, have set a go al of
$50,000 to take as an advance on
the overall total of $250,000.
Progress in many phases of
the campaign was noted this
week by drive leaders, who are
urging all workers to pick up
their campaign kits for solicita-
tion.
Outside of the furniture di-
vision, which traditionally
opens the drive, most divisions
are concentrating on obtaining
full payment for a few of last
year's unpaid pledges.
The Women's Golden Rule So-
ciety, for which a pledge of
$500 was announced previously,
stated this week that its pledge
was for $400.
