in Candlelight Rites

Phyllis Adele Levine, daugh-
ter of Mr. and Mrs. Reuben
Levine, of Tyler Ave., exchang-
ed nuptial vows with Fred Chei-
man, son of Mr. and Mrs.
George Cheiman, of Glastonbury
Rd., in a candlelight ceremony
Aug. 12, in the Mayfair Room.
Rabbi Hayim Donin and Cantor
Hyman Adler officiated.
The bride's gown was of rose
pointe lace and nylon and tulle
net over skinner satin. The por-
trait neckline was trimmed with
seed pearls, as was her veil
which fell from a Juliet cap.
She carried a white Bible cov-
ered with white orchids' and
streamers of stephanotis.
Mrs. Barbara Margolis was
matron of honor, and Sandra
Iskovitz was maid of honor.
Bridesmaids were Rosetta Klee
and Barbara Apple.
Gerald Feldman was best
man, and ushers were Billy
Ginsberg and Bernie • Ginsberg,
cousins of the bridegroom. The
bride's grandfather, Morris
Fink; also was in the bridal
party.
Among the out-of-town guests
attending were relatives • and
friends from Toronto. Following
a honeymoon in Florida, the
couple will reside in Detroit,
Where Mr. Cheiman will con-
tinue his studies in pharmacy.

UHS Enrolls
All Classes

Final enrollment in United
Hebrew Schools classes is now
being conducted.
Classes for beginners will
start Sept 17. Parents are urged
to enroll their children early
to insure proper arrangements.
Classes for students previously
enrolled will start Monday,
Sept. 10.
Bar MitzVah regulations of
synagogues require a minimum
of four years training in a
Hebrew School as a prerequisite
for Bar Mitzvah. Children who
have now reached the ages of
eight and nine should be en-
rolled in order to meet these
regulations. Bar Mitzvah pre
paration is a regula' part of the
Hebrew School course for which
there are no extr a_ fees or
charges.
Special classes for girls are
now being offered in most
branches of the United Hebrew
Schools in addition to the reg-
ular classes which are open to
both boys and girls.
Enrollment also is now taking
place for the Nursery School
Branch on Schaefer and Seven
Mile Road. Enrollment in this
branch is limited to 50 children.
This Nursery School is ac-
credited by the State of Mich-
igan. Transportation to and from
Nursery School is available.
Children between the ages of
3 and 41/2 are eligible for this

Registration also is taking
Place for the Sholem Aleichem
School, an affiliate of the United
Hebrew Schools. Transportation
for the Shoiem Aleichem School
is provided by the UtIS tran-
sportation, fleet. .
The United Hebrew -Schools',
16 buses and three station
wagons provide transportation
for children from all areas of
the city and the suburbs to the
closest Hebrew School branch.

Name Gubow to Head
106th Infantry - Group

Lawrence Gubow, 20100
Braile, was elected president of
the 106th Infantry Division As-
sociation at its annual conven-
tion in Atlantic .City this month.
Active in lodal veteran affairs,
Gubow, who is the Michigan
Corporation and Securities
Commissioner, is present com-
mander of the Department. of
Michigan of the Jewish War
Veterans.
He also is Judge Advocate of
the Allied Veterans Council of
Wayne County, a member of
AMVETS, the American Legion
and the executive committee of
the Jewish Community Council.
In World War II, the 106th
Infantry figured in the Battle
of the Bulge. The Association
now maintains a memorial fund
used for the schooling of chil-
dren of members who fell in
this and other engagements in
which the Division participated.

Elect Sol Hoberman
to JWV National Committee

Sol M. Hoberman, past com-
mander of the Department of
Michigan, Jewish War Veterans,
was elected to the national ex-
ecutive committee of JWV at
the national encampment ear-
lier this month in Milwaukee.
Isidore Furor, of Youngstown,
0., was elected national vice-
commander for the fifth region
at the encampment. This is the
region that includes the Mich-
igan JWV.

Suburban BranchCirele to Open

The Workmen's Circle School,
which opens for registration
this Sunday, will mark its 313th
year hereby adding a new
branch to serve children in the
Northwest section and sub-
urban Detroit areas.
The supplementary sessions
will be held from 4 to 5:15 and
5:15 to 6:30 p.m. in the new
Jewish Center-United Hebrew
School Bldg., 14500 W. 10 Mile,
in Oak Park.
The classes will be conducted
by Jean Katz, who has been
with the school for several
years, it was announced by
Saul Maltz, • Workmen's Circle
School director. Youngsters
will be picked up at their
public schools.
Elementary and high school
. classes will be held, as in for-
mer years, at the main build-
ing, 11529 Linwood. Scholar-
ship aid is available in some
instances, Maltz said.
The school curriculum fea-
tures secular Jewish education,
including history, art, music,

literature, personalities, t h e
celebration of festivals and
study of the Yiddish language.
.A nursery for children 31/2
to 5 will be maintained at the
Linwood building, and meets
from 1 to 4 p.m., weekdays.
Two-day sessions for children
6 to 8 1/2 are planned.
Registration w ill continue
through Sept. 9 at the main
office, and will be held Tues-
day and Wednesday for the
suburban branch, the latter at
the home of Mrs. Sara Kaplan,

A garden ceremony at the
home of her parents, Mr. and
Mrs. Benjamin Goldstein, of 85
Judy Lane, Birmingham, served
as the setting of the Aug. 26
wedding of Carole Sue Gold-
stein and Jordan Jay Cohen,
son of Mrs. Bernard Cohen, of
Kansas City, Mo., and the late
Mr. Cohen. Rabbi Milton Rosen ,
baum officiated.
The bride chose a gown of
white Italian peau de sole heir-
loom Brussells lace, appliqued
in motifs on the portrait neck-
line, tiny cap sleeves and prin-
cess line bodice.
Her bouffant skirt was of
floor length, and extended into
a cathedral train. The veil was
an heirloom Brussells lace man-
tilla. She carried a white pray-
erbook covered with phaelanOp-
sis orchids and stephanotis.
Judith Ann Goldstein, sister
of the bride, was maid of honor,
and bridesmaids were Mrs. Don-
ald Shapiro, of Houston, Tex.;
Joyce Siegel, of Denver, Colo.;
Dorothy Miller, of Port Chester,.
N. Y.; Paula Kaplan, of Flint;
Meridelle Knights and. Paula
McDonald, of Birmingham.
The bridegroom's best man
was N. Gordon Levin, Jr., of
Brookline, Mass., and ushers in-
cluded Peter B. F. Randolph, of
Cambridge, Mass.; Clark Cun-
ningham and. Stanley Shane of
Kansas City; Harold Roth, -of
St. Louis; Charles A. Kroloff, of
Cincinnati, and Kenneth Lieb-:
man, of New York City.
A garden reception and buffet
supper followed the ceremony,
after which the couple left for
a honeymoon to Northern Mich-
igan. They will take up resi-
dence at Bbston, where the
bridegroom attends Harvard
University Medical School and
the bride is a senior at Welles-
ley College.
