or Annual Honor Roll Campaign Escapes Death
Golden Anniversary
on Andrea Doria
NEW YORK — A North Afri-
Ln family, which had almost
given up hope of immigrating
to America, was among_ the
survivors of last week's ill-fated
sinking of the Italian liner An-
drea Doria.
Joseph Benclrihern, 31, his
wife, Algeria, 28, and their son,
Isidor, 4, were almost to their
new home when the tragedy
struck. They were among the
survivors brought here by one
of the rescue vessels.
The family, brought to this
country by United Hias Service,
at one time thought they could
.never immigrate here because
of the oversubscription of Mo-
roccan quotas.
However, a United Hias aide
working on the case learned
that Mrs, Bendrihern was born
in Gibraltar, placing her on the
undersubscribed British quota.
Getting an early start on their annual Honor Roll campaign
