Jordan Ministry of Education
plans to protest to the British
government because an ex-1
amination given to. Jordan
students in Amman on profi-
ciency in English contained a
map of the Middle East on
which Israel was shown as a
country, it was reported here
from the Jordan capitol. The
examination was for purposes
of matriculation at the Uni-*
versity of London.

engagement of their daughter,
Beverly Marlene, to Alvin Jack
Shapiro, son of 'Mrs. Betty
Shapiro, of Buena Vista Ave.,

Miss Lopatin is now a senior
student nurse at the Grace Hos-
pital School of Nursing. Mr.
Shapiro, a graduate of the
Wayne University School of
Pharmacy, is now a senior at
the Des Moines Still College
of Osteopathy and Surgery. He
is affiliated with Psi Sigma
Alpha Honor Fraternity,
Lambda Omicron Gamma and
Rho Pi Phi fraternity.
A December wedding is
planned.

Mrs. Bernard Abramson, of
8214 Santa Clara, was last week
named president of Division V
of Phi Sigma Sigma sorority at
the 28th national convention in
Miami Beach, Fla.
An active member of the De-
troit Alumnae Club of the soror-
ity, Mrs. Abramson is a teacher
at the Quandt School in Melvin-
dale, and is• active in PTA work
in the Detroit area.
The division, of which she is
president, covers the Central
States- Region of the , United
States.

During the five-day conven-
tion, a gift of $25;000 was voted
to the Albert Einstein College
of Medicine of Yeshiva Univer-
sity in New York. The funds
will be used for a research
laboratory for rheumatic heart
disease, the major philanthropy
Of the organizatioh.
