Sue Barcus, of 17605 Parkside, an art education senior at
Wayne University, is on the teaching and counselor staff of the
National Music Camp, Interlochen, Mich.
Mrs. Arthur Cutler, of Prairie Ave., has returned home from
a recent visit with her family in Brooklyn, N. Y., during which
she attended the graduation of her niece, Gloria Cohen, from
Hunter College. The Cutlers presently have as their house guest
a cousin, Fannie Cohen, of Brooklyn.
Messrs. Robert Abrams, Wallace Handler and Robert Litt-
man, all of this city, left last weekend aboard the SS Flandre
for London, England, where they will begin a two-month tour
of Europe, including stops in France, Italy, Switzerland, Holland
and Germany.
Among the recent graduates from the University of Michigan
Medical School was Dr. David S. Jacobs, son of Mrs. Harry L.
Jacobs, formerly of Detroit and now a resident of Ann Arbor,
and the late Mr. Jacobs. Dr. Jacobs, the grandson of the late
Mr. and Mrs. Abraham Jacobs, of this city, will intern at Uni-
versity Hospital, Ann Arbor.
Arlene Rosen Goldberg, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph G.
Rosen, of Kentucky Ave., recently received a master's degree
in social work from Wayne University.
Mr. and Mrs. Joe Sinai, of Broadstreet Blvd., were recently
honored on the -occasion of their silver wedding anniversary at
a surprise open house celebration given by -their children, Sandra
and Allen.
Mr. and Mrs. M. H. Zackheim, of W. Outer Dr., are vaca-
tioning in northern Michigan for a few weeks.
Dr. Herschel S. Zackheim has returned here from Chicago
where he attended the convention of the American Medical As-
sociation.,
Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Markowitz will hold an open house hon-
oring their daughter, Brenda Gail, a recent graduate of Mumford
High School, from 2 to 5 p.m., Sunday, at 19313 Stoepel. No cards.
Thirty friends and relatives, including Mrs. Ethel Griff, of
Waltham, Mass., attended a sweet sixteen birthday luncheon
recently at Sacca's Lounge, honoring Miss Gail Maxine King,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jack S. King.

Mr. Porter is now in this
country on a United States Gov-
ernment grant to study Amer-
ican journalism and other facets
of American life. He has spent
three months in Quincy, Mass.,
with the Quincy Patriot Ledger,
and is now traveling through-
out the U.S. and Canada under
the sponsorship of the Depart-
ment of State.

MRS. DONALD SHAPIRO

Susan Greta Klein was united
in marriage on June 23 to Dr.
Donald N. Shapiro, at a candle-
light ceremony solemnized in
the Statler Hotel.
The bride is the daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Klein.
The bridegroom's parents are
Mr. and Mrs. Simon Shapiro.
The new Mrs. Shapiro chose a
gown of white Italian silk taf-
feta with a fitted bodice, por-
trait neckline and chapel train.
Her veil was of rosepointe lace,
caught with orange blossoms. A
bouquet of white orchids, steph-
anotis and ivy was fastened to
her Bible.
Brenda Borock, a niece of the
'bridegroom, was maid of honor,
and other attendants were Car-
ole Goldstein, Barbara Levin
and Julie Michel. Another niece,
Susan Borock, was flower girl.
Saul Wineman was best man,
and ushers were Thomas Klein,
the bride's brother; Sander
Bernstein, Isaac Green, Herbert
Gold, Leo Litwak and Richard
Sloan.
Following a reception in the
Grand Ballroom, the young
couple drove to Houston, Tex., -
where Dr. Shapiro is head resi-
dent in oral surgery at Veterans
Administration Hospital. They
will return to make their home
in Detroit after a year in Hous-
ton.

SLAVIN-LANE. In a chapel
devised in the English Room
of the Statler Hotel on June
24, Joyce Ellen Lane, daugh-
ter of Mr. and Mrs. Donald J.
Lane, of 18461 Salem, became
the bride of Louis Jay Slavin,
of Kalamazoo, son of Mr. and
Mrs. William Slavin. Dr. Rich-
ard C. Hertz officiated.
The bride chose a gown of
bridal white, fashioned with a
bodice of Chantilly lace, a skirt
of layers of chiffon over taf-
feta, a boat neckline and mit-
tens of matching lace. The tight
bodice of lace hugged the small
hipline in a princess style and
from under lace s c a 11 o p s,
dropped into a billowing, bouf-
fant skirt, ending in a short
sweep.
Her veil, attached to an open
headpiece of the lace, was of
three tiered illusion and fell to
her fingertips. She carried her
confirmation pr ay erbook,
adorned with phaelanopsis, lily-
of-the-valley and cascading ivy.
The bride was attended by
Carol Ruth Goldshine, of Syd-
ney, N.Y., as maid of honor,
and her sister, Judith Corinne
Lane, was junior bridesmaid.
Other attendants were Mrs. Joel
Philip Hepner, of Kalamazoo,
Lois Ann Karbel and Mrs. Nor-
man Rex Smith, of Cincinnati.
